      FAQ

      What are we doing?

After analysing your feedback, we've realised that there is a lot of confusion caused by multiple inconsistent issue search pages in Jira. We want to simplify search in Jira and make it faster and more scalable. In this journey we will be adding features to the new issue navigator and after it has all the functionality of advanced search, we will replace advanced search with the new issue navigator.

Here's what we are achieving with this change:

      • A consistently powerful issue search experience in Jira
      • Faster and more scalable search
      • Updated technology behind search, making it easier to add new features
      • Simple and modern UI

      Why are we doing this?

We receive lots of great feedback from our customers on how we should improve issue search in Jira. One of the top items that caused confusion was the disparity in the user experience between advanced search and project "issues" tab. Moreover, our customers want the search to be more user friendly and powerful, we need to modernise the tech stack of search to make that happen.

      What to expect next?

To keep you informed, we will use this issue to communicate the progress of our work. Please WATCH this ticket to stay updated on the latest.

How do I enable the issue navigator in my team-managed projects ?

You can enable issue navigator via the features page under team-managed project settings in Jira Cloud. After you have enabled the issue navigator, Issues will appear in the sidebar on the left.

What will happen to my marketplace apps ?

To ensure a smooth transition of marketplace apps, we ran a testing program to allow time for app developers to transition to the new issue navigator.

What about the issues that currently exist in Advanced search?

A lot of the issues with advanced search are getting fixed and you can try the fixed out today in the new issue navigator. An example is JRACLOUD-76031 Unify the scrollbar appearance on different platforms.  More documentation on the new issue navigator here

[JRACLOUD-74155] Consolidated search for Jira Cloud

Hi all, thank you for your patience on this project.

We are pleased to announce that we've landed support for:

            • Export issues
            • Filter and system column configuration
            • Inline edit of some fields, with more to come

We've moved all customers to the new issue search experience, however it is still possible to use the old search via the page's meatball menu and users are free to go back and forth between the two experiences.

When will the new Issue Navigator support third party apps? When will an app be able to register its button, menu item, web item, etc. on the new Issue Navigator?

There are several apps that rely on this, and currently they are not available in the new Issue Navigator. It is a blocker, not a low-priority limitation.

            Hi,

Thank you for your work. The new list view is a great step forward. Especially inline editting capabilities.

I would very appreciate showing and inline editing Custom fields. Specifically numbers, short text and select list.

My use-case is evaluating and sorting high number of issues by several attributes. E.g. bugs with Affected Features (Select list multiple choice), Conditions of Appearance (Short text), Affected user group (Select list single choice), Impact (number)

Opening each issue while doing evaluation of 100 bugs takes more time and is harder to focus on.

I believe I'm not the only one.

            Using Jira Software Cloud.

Hope my point of view helps with prioritization.

Hi all, thank you for your patience on this project.

We are pleased to announce that we have begun rolling out new features for the project issue navigator:

            1. The ability to configure which columns you would like to see in the list view
            2. A buttery-smooth drag and drop experience for reordering columns
            3. New fields for you to refine by (and now view as columns) - label, fix version, component, and parent

This rollout is taking place on a region-by-region basis, but we expect all instances to see these features within the next week.

Read more about the details of these new features in our community post here.

Don't hesitate to send me a message if there are any concerns!

I can add two bugs I reoprted already that are relevant here.

            1. Specified order in JQL for users and even priority is not recognized as shown Unable to render embedded object: File (_thumb_6959294.png?fromIssue=4727452) not found.
            2. It would be so very helpful to my team if "startof week (-1) was compatible with compnent in JQL as shown...unfortunately it is not.

            Can these be added??

Hi all, we are excited to share with you that we are ready to ship the next improvement to the new issue navigator and it will be hitting your Jira in October.

Now you can save custom filters, just as you can do today in the "Advanced search". You can also share your search criteria with other Jira users.

Search bar with the "Save filter" button

            Hi esther.strom,

Thank you for your question and your interest in transformation and consolidation of search in Jira!

This means the latter - advanced search will be replaced by the new issue navigator. However, that does not mean that the features of advanced search will be diminished. On the contrary, advanced search is coming to project scope as well. It may sound a little confusing, but the gist is "We are creating a better/faster/more scalable advanced search to replace the old one" and we are iteratively unveiling it in the project scope for now.

In regards to multi-project searches you can do the new issue navigator in your projects today already, we added that ability a couple of months ago

            Cheers,

            Yerbol.
