      Latest update 20th Feb 2023

      Hello, watchers.

We need to pause the development of this feature. Please watch this ticket to get informed when we'll resume our work.

      Ecosystem team

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

As a JIRA Administrator, I want to edit shared filters that are owned by other users.

Currently a shared filter can only be edited by the shared filter's owner, not even a JIRA Admin can edit one. However, a JIRA Administrator can:

      1. Change the owner of the filter to themselves
      2. Modify and save the filter
      3. Change the owner back to the original

This is a tedious workaround to something JIRA Administrators should be able to do without extra steps.

Note: Same thing should be done for dashboards

+1 – Having to login as the person who created the subscription is tedious and in some cases, impractical to just gain visibility on what's being shared, and how often.

            a nightmare

This has been paused for over a year, any update? This functionality exists in Jira server, but not in cloud.

Ah, good to know. The ability to add groups you are not a part of is helpful too (instead of needing to add yourself to the group first).  Will watch the column bug... thanks!

ea582e71db54, esther.strom  apologies, you are right. We have added functionality to allow non-owners be specified as `Editors`, as well as allow admins to share filters with groups / project roles that they themselves are not part of.

Regarding allowing editors to change column configuration on a filter - we are aware of the issue and are tracking it in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-78937 Please add yourself as a watcher on the ticket.

esther.strom, I'm guessing that Ivan is meaning that you can take ownership from the System section and then share with others once you are the owner without needing to give back ownership (unless something even newer has been released and it has not hit our instances yet either).

b8333d47d5c9, correct me if I am wrong on that.  It would be helpful to be able to share a filter without needing to first become an owner.  Also, even when you are shared as an Editor on a filter right now with the newer sharing feature, you cannot change the fields that show as columns in the list view.  Are there any plans to add that functionality so that you do not need to be an owner to change columns in list view of a filter?  Filter editors need to do that too.

@ivan - can you please provide info on where we can find this functionality? I don't see anything in the Details section of filters I don't own that will let me share those filters.

Thank you for your interest in this issue. We are happy to announce that this functionality has been implemented for sharing filters.

            Edit:

Apologies, I have misinterpreted the description. We have recently implemented functionality to allow admins to share filters with groups / project roles that they are not part of, as well as specify non-owners as editors on a filter. However it does not solve the issue described here.

Admins are able to change the Owners of Dashboards using the GUI as described below by Thuan, but the ability to do this via the API (like we can with Filters) would allow us to automate Jira offboarding. Thanks for your help.

Similar to new Automation owner change feature, would like to mass change owner of Filters and Dashboards.

Admin being able to edit doesn't solve the underlying owner issue.
