JIRA Service Desk trial license expiry breaks JIRA Core and JIRA Software

After JIRA Service Desk trial license is expired, issues cannot be created in JIRA Core or JIRA Software

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Install JIRA Core and JIRA Software with a good license
      2. Install JIRA Service Desk with a trial license
      3. Wait for the trial license to expire
      4. Attempt to Create Issue in JIRA Core or JIRA Software

Expected Outcome Issues can still be created in JIRA Core and JIRA Software
Actual Outcome Issues cannot be created in JIRA Core and JIRA Software

      Workaround

In order to not affect Jira Software, please remove the JSM license from Admin > Application Versions & license. Without the expired license, the ticket creation by licensed users will not be affected.

As someone who had a trial license of Jira Service Desk and a full license for Jira Software, I can't stress enough how that "feature" is mind-boggling.

            Hi,

Our customer has both Jira Software and Service Desk and is wondering what will happen if they decide to stop using Jira Service Desk.  Question is: "if we would decide to stop with JSD and assumed the license period for JSD has expired, would it then be sufficient to remove the license entry for JSD to enable creation of Jira tickets again? Or is there another solution provided for this problem".

Could you please provide me with an answer.

            Thanks!

            Daan

This is pretty rough that the expected result is that the other licensed products stop working.  "Working as designed" is quite an ironic way to phrase it since it clearly is not working when the license expires.  A better phrase is "This breaks all of your licensed products in exactly the way we designed them to break".

I really question the design decision here to minimize confusion and maximize pain.  It also is counter to the plug-in model where if a plugin stops working it just means those features are no longer available but the rest of Jira keeps working.  Should you move JSD back to a plugin?

This might be working as designed, but certainly not as expected by the customer. The least thing you should do is state that other applications will stop working in the license expiration banner that is shown days before the license expires. This would give admins time to fix the problem before users can not work any more.

Nobody reads the documentation about license compatibility if you have a button on the application screen to try out Service Desk with some clicks. I have no seen a warning anywhere while installing service desk trial.
