NOTE: This bug report is for JIRA Service Desk Server. Using JIRA Service Desk Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

      Update as of 8 January 2016

      This has been fixed, and relies on the underlying JIRA version.

      Therefore, the fix will be available along with JIRA 7.0.9 for Server customers. It should also be available to Cloud customers in January (JIRA 7.1.0-OD-04)

      With that version of JIRA, the fix version of JIRA Service Desk will also be required

      Steps to Reproduce (tested with a local JIRA 6.3.13 and JSD 2.1.1):

      1. Add a google mail as the outgoing mail server;
      2. Create a project/service desk;
      3. Create an issue as a customer;
      4. As an agent, attach an image to the issue;
      5. Add a comment to the issue:
        !^my-attachment.png!

      Expected Behavior:

      The email notification would show the attached image for the JSD notifications.

      Actual Results:

      The notification does not display the image attached inline with the notifications on JSD.

      Workaround:

      Use the markup to present the image rather than showing it as an inline attachment.

            Hi all!
            Now there is a feature request for embedding non-image attachments in the mail-notifications aswell..
            Please vote on JSD-3575

            roger.oberg just to confirm that this change only relates to embedding images inside the email. If you are referring to adding an attached pdf to the mail that was inlined in a comment, that should be a different feature suggestion that would relate to both JIRA and JIRA Service Desk.

            But please raise this as a new suggestion so that our Product Managers become aware of it.

            Regards

            The fix will also require the latest version of JIRA. 7.0.9 or 7.0.10.

            This is because to make this work, it was necessary to make changes in JIRA as well.

            Yes, for a Service Desk project, if for example an agent adds an attachment to a public comment, the image would be included in the notification email (as an inlined attachment) that is sent to the customer.

            That isn't what seems to be happening, unless this is in a newer version of Service Desk than 3.0.10.

            In 3.0.10, the email contains a URL pointing at the attachment and because authentication is required, the email client fails to display the image.

            Can you please confirm/clarify version numbers for this to be working?

            Hi Matt,
            Just to clarify,
            Is the solution applicable to all kinds of attachments, so they are included as an actual attachment in the outbound email ( if it has been inlined in the comment), and not just images?

            Hi

            This fix relies on JIRA 7.1.0-OD-04 which has not yet been released. The current version of JIRA in Cloud environments is JIRA 7.1.0-OD-03. I would expect the fix to be released in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

            Regards
            Matt

            Matthew, my Jira Cloud has updated to JIRA v7.1.0-OD-03-048 and JIRA Service Desk v3.1.0-OD-09-001-D20151221T080724, and I'm still getting a broken img, and no file attachments. Has this fix slipped to a later release?

            NB: The related JRA-41675 issue is still open, and therefore JIRA internal notifications will not yet have this feature.

            Matt-

            Just to clarify, it's going to be an actual inline attachment, and not just a link back to the Jira instance?
            Will this only affect image attachments?

            This is the issue I hope this resolves: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-6207

            Hi Sean,

            Yes, the whole image should be included as an attachment if it has been inlined in the comment as comment as wiki markup.

            It will rely on JIRA 7.1.0-OD-04 in Cloud.

            Regards
            Matt
