      NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      I have configured my Jira account to send emails. When someone mentions me in a comment or description, usually the email contains the text "x commented on", and only sometimes does it contain the text "x mentioned you".

      I rely on the "x mentioned you" to filter incoming email using inbox rules. If it doesn't contain that phrase, it skips my inbox.

      The behavior described above means that email updates for most comments where I am mentioned by name skip my inbox. Can it be fixed that such emails always contain "x mentioned you"?

      Even more usefull would be if emails from Jira contain tags that can be used for inbox rules.

      Thank you for considering!

            [JRASERVER-37777] Always use the phrase "mentioned you" in emails for comments or changes that mention me

            It's easier having a different subject whenever you are mentioned, instead of using inbox rules to filter for emails that contain the word "x mentioned you".

            In case you would like to have in the email subject "{user} mentioned you on {issueKey}" please vote and watch this issue:

            This behavior is present in Cloud and would it would be appreciated in DC!

            @Daniel,

            I just saw your reply from may 6th and sent you an email.

            so very psyched for this!! Thanks @Daniel

            adam.mcmillan after the change you will receive the same email you would receive as if you were not watching the issue, i.e. it will contain the words "John Smith mentioned you on JIRA-1234" followed by the comment/description. So yes - the mail filters will work.

            mriedel1029065643 unfortunately, to make sure we don't break APIs for our plugin vendors, this small change modifies tens of files and changes a few thousands of lines of code, so I wouldn't feel safe backporting it to the ER.
            I would appreciate it if you sent me an email (drauf at atlassian dot com) with a link to the bug in the batched email experience that prevents you from using it - we might be able to do something about that.

            @Daniel,

            Will this also be fixed in one of the 8.5.x ER releases? We can't use the batched email experience as it has other bug and really would love to have this in a ER release.

            So to be clear...

            I'm a watcher on a JIRA, and somebody comments with me @mentioned.

            Today: I only get the email telling me that somebody commented on the ticket (ie lost in my tidal wave of such messages)

            In 8.9: that email now also contains wording saying "mentioned you" so I can use gmail filters to mark those ones as important?

            Oh please tell me this is true.

            I'm literally sitting here jaw-dropped. Is this actually happening?!

            This is great! Thank you Daniel, I can't wait to try it out. This has been one of my biggest headaches and causes for missing notifications within Jira.

            I'm glad to announce that starting from Jira 8.9, all emails resulting from a mention will contain the words "mentioned you" in the classical email experience.

            In the new, batched email experience, this behavior is present since Jira 8.0.0 (which might in particular interest people on the 8.5 ER).
