    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Today in JIRA, like mentioned in this documentation, an user who is already an watcher in a ticket will not receive the mentioned you email notification when someone mentions him in a comment. This user will receive an email with the edits instead:

If you mention users who are already watchers of the issue, they receive one email notification only when you save the edits that have their names mentioned.

It would be great if we can have an option to change this behavior in JIRA, since the Mention email is different and calls more attention of the user if he is already receiving updates from the ticket.

            [JRASERVER-41364] Mentioning a Watcher

I'm glad to announce that starting from Jira 8.9, all emails resulting from a mention will contain the words "mentioned you" in the classical email experience.

In the new, batched email experience, this behavior is present since Jira 8.0.0 (which might in particular interest people on the 8.5 ER).

I am not receiving mentioned you emails when I am the reporter of a ticket or added as a Watcher.

For sure, requires a fix. It should not be a suggestion - it is a design flaw.

I think it's about time to get down to this issue, the ticket was created 2 years ago, it's creating serious issues where important mentions are being missed because they don't fall on the correct email filter.

Adding support to the common sense approach described by Celina. The current behavior is very problematic.
