    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Customers want the ability to:

      • Remove old versions of pages older than specific date (e.g. get rid of anything older than 6 months)
      • Limit the number of old versions kept (e.g. limit to 5 previous versions)

      In order to:

      • Reduce the database usage of Confluence, particularly on frequently- or automatically-updated pages
      • Comply with legislative document destruction requirements (e.g. delete content older than some years).

These tasks could be done manually via space admin, or triggered by an automatic housekeeping task.

[CONFSERVER-27701] Ability to administer number of page versions for a given space or page

This is great. However, we can't combine the retention rules offered to have both 'number of versions' and 'time period' in Confluence. There is an enhancement request to bring this option to Confluence:  CONFSERVER-79757 - Combination of Retention Policies for Confluence

I suspect a lot of users here would want that ability too so your votes on that will help.

            Dear Customers,

I'm closing this ticket down as this feature was implemented in Confluence DC 7.16, as mentioned above the release notes are here, apologies for leaving this ticket open. The feature was implemented to be configurable on a site-wide basis, or a space wide basis, but not specifically on a per-page level. Here's the full documentation for how this feature works if you wish to explore further.

Thanks to all those who waited for this feature, I hope you find it useful when administrating Confluence DC, cheers!

            Hey everyone,

A quick update and a request for help.

We are very close to shipping a solution that would allow admins to set retention rules for page and attachment versions, and for automatically purging trash in Confluence.

However, we need your help to validate the UI and refine how we communicate the options.

We are planning to run a few user testing sessions over the next couple of weeks and would love if you could participate and give us your feedback.

            What's involved?

            • Sessions will be 45 minutes in length and conducted over video conference, with our team in Sydney.

            How do I participate?

            • We will confirm a few details before sending through a calendar invitation with video conference details
            • During the session, we will show you the UI for the feature we are planning to ship and ask you to complete a few tasks so we can learn about how easy the UI is to understand and what could be improved.
            • As a token of our appreciation, you'll receive a thank you gift following the completion of your session.

We can't guarantee that we will be able to speak with all interested parties but we definitely appreciate your interest and enthusiasm to help us make Confluence easier and more enjoyable to use.

            Thanks,

Thank you for your votes and comments on your experience with page versions.

The Confluence team is exploring technical and user experience improvements for page versions. We've received feedback on various aspects of this problem and would like to speak with Confluence Server/Data Center customers to better understand the concerns and problems.
