NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Confluence does not current meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WAI-WCAG). In order for a growing number of governments to make use of Confluence, it would need to meet at least priority A and preferably priority AA of the standards.

The list of countries in which this is a requirement is growing, and includes:

      1. The Australian government
      2. The Canadian government
      3. The German government

That list will presumably include the US government after the upcoming section 508 review.

[CONFCLOUD-14249] Improve accessibility by satisfying WAI-WCAG

Hopefully this is on a roadmap soon.  This will limit any ability for government and broader public sector organizations to really build any future around your product.  In Ontario: https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/110191#s14s4

No large organization or entity in the broader public sector in Ontario, Canada can make Confluence available to the public or open it to Anonymous users.

I have worked with people in the industry to break this down further and identify a few of the common gaps. Please feel free to add other sub-tasks if you have specific examples of problem behaviors.

This is a serious issue for a German governmental organization I'm working for. Is there any kind of status update or roadmap for WAI-WCAG (or Section 508) compliance? The pages Matt Goonan mentioned are not available to me.

Another vote for this, it really should be part of any modern enterprise application given the mandates now in place.

It's also mandatory for the Government of Canada which owns many licenses of Confluence.

            ... and now essential - http://webguide.gov.au/accessibility-usability/accessibility/

For all Australian Government Departments and Agencies WCAG 2.0 conformance is going to be mandatory.
If our Atlassian products are not to be WACG 2.0 compliant by 31 Dec. 2012 then we will all (*.gov.au, csiro.au and agencies) need to begin the move to alternatives now.

Could this be reviewed please. Apparently there is an Australian Govt requirement to pass priority A by the end of 2012. Does Atlassian have any plans re this requirement?
