      Atlassian Update - 20th July 2023

Hi everyone, my name is Ben, I'm a Product Manager in Jira Work Management.

Firstly, thank you all for watching and voting on this ticket.

This ticket is now a bit over 2 years old. During this time Jira Work Management has seen plenty of updates, some of which address the requests and comments in this ticket. Over time this ticket has become a "catch all" for anything related to Epics and Stories in Jira Work Management. This isn't helpful for you our customers, as it's hard to tell what we're working on, and if we're reading your requests. It also isn't helpful for Atlassian product/support as it's hard to provide clear answers.

Because of this, this ticket will now be tracked in separate subtasks. Please vote for the relevant subtask if it describes your request. Otherwise please open a separate ticket if your concerns are not captured by the tickets below:

To clear up confusion, this ticket will be moved back to gathering interest. Progress for the suggestions above will tracked in their respective tickets.

Thank you again for your continued feedback and patience,

      Ben

For companies that use agile methodologies across the business, it would be helpful to have better support of the Epic and story issue type in the Jira Work Management project templates. Plus, advanced roadmaps expects it. You can add these issue types, but the fields required for the Epic aren't supported in the form. And the hierarchy doesn't display in the list or timeline. The hierarchy displays nicely in Advanced roadmap if you have an epic set up, but if you don't, and you just have a task with subtasks, it categorizes the work under "issues with no parent." So it's sub-optimal no matter which way you do it.

[JWMCLOUD-30] Support Epics and Stories in Jira Work Management Cloud

Hi ebc074d0f1b3 - you can track the progress of nesting in timeline view on this JAC: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111 , this is something we are working on at the moment

            Hi all

The ability to view hierarchy from epic to subtask in JWM Timeline is crucial for project management. It is very annoying to work without a Gantt Diagram of the portfolio and more so that it has long been implemented in Jira Timeline

@everyone please vote for this feature, @atlassian, please consider implementing it.

            Regards

            Hi @Ben

I think, a lot of people are missing a Subtask for the timeline view and in general any kind of information on this topic as can be observed in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111

Not getting any feedback there (maybe due to missing assignee/owner of that issue) is frustrating. I (and many others) would really appreciate it, if you could comment on that linked issue and subtask it into this one (why should "convert to subtask" not work here?).

btw: not having an assignee on this issue here is surely not best-practice for "in progress"

            Best regards, Roland

Does this ticket include adding Epic Link as a field to the issues in Work Management?

I'd like to be able to link my issue in Work Management to an Epic created in Jira Software to track when it is done.

I cannot add the Epic Link field to my issue in Work Management, but I can view Epic Link as a column on the Work Management issue board.

            Thanks!

            Hi Ben,

Thanks for updating this issue and delivering some of the features.

It seems that you missed the Support Hierarchy (Epics > Stories > Subtask) in Board as per https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111, which is different from Support Epics, Stories and Subtasks in Board (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-526). If you look at your update, you just mentioned Timeline, where https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111 mentions Board and Timeline.

Currently, Epics are shown alongside Tasks with no indication as to which Task is related to which Epic (Basically, there is no indication of hierarchy). Similar to Jira software, you may let us to Group by: Epic or ** come up with another solution that helps users identify the task/epic relations/hierarchy.

            Kind regards,

            Milad

            Hi 1271f800df25,

The list in Jira Work Management already supports Epic > Story > Subtask hierarchy so the ticket is closed. If this is not working for you please contact support. Otherwise if you would like more functionality than what we currently have, please feel free to create another ticket describing what you would like.

            Thanks,

            Ben

            Hi e23ac802af6b

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111  was already it's own JAC ticket so I can't add it as a subtask here. Working with support to see what I can do to include it in this ticket. I can assure you we're monitoring it as a part of this ticket all the same

This task https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-111  remains without an assignee, an update or any indication of expected time to completion or acknowledgement from Jira that they understand and are working on the issue.

After 2 years thats not really good enough.

            regards

I was trying to vote on Support Hierarchy (Epics > Stories > Subtask) in List (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JWMCLOUD-525), but this Issue is currently CLOSED.
We cannot vote on it. Please fix it.
