      Atlassian Update – 03 July 2023

Thank you for reporting this issue. In the last weeks we have been working hard on fixing it.

      Summary of the problem:

New comment that was just created would not appear in the UI if an instance was using non-default value for{{ jira.comments.collapsing.minimum.hidden}} and comments sorting was set to "Oldest first".

      New behaviour after the change:

New comment now appears in the UI when the sorting setting is "Oldest first", regardless of what value is found under jira.comments.collapsing.minimum.hidden

Status of the fix and Fix Version:

The fix is ready, and we’re moving the status of this ticket to Waiting for release with Fix Version 9.4.9 and 9.10.1.

      Best regards,

      Problem

Comments do not appear automatically after being added when "Oldest First" is chosen for comment sorting on an Issue and the value of jira.comment.collapsing.minimum.hidden is not 1.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Set jira.comment.collapsing.minimum.hidden to any value that is not 1, such as 0, 99, or 256.
      2. Set the Activity sorting for the Comments on an Issue with more than 10 comments to to "Oldest First". If the issue has less than 10 comments, add comments until it has more than 10.
      3. Add a comment to the issue

      Expected Results

Comments should appear automatically once they are posted.

      Actual Results

Your comment will not automatically appear after being posted. It is necessary to refresh the page to see it appear.

      Workaround

      Either:

      • Set jira.comment.collapsing.minimum.hidden to 1

      Or:

      • Sort comments by "Newest First".

We have Jira version 9.4.8 in our development environment and we found an additional bug that keeps the sort order if changed.  refresh and cntl refresh does not revert back to the default of oldest first.

Another enhancement that would be nice is having the add comment button at the top of the comments as well.

Yet another enhancement would be to have the show 10 more button and show all button option on the the same screen.
