      Problem Definition

Currently Rich Text editor available in JIRA 7.2.0 and above but it's not available in Service Desk customer portal. Customer can only comment from "Text" mode in Customer Portal.

      Suggested Solution

Add Rich Text editor as shown in https://confluence.atlassian.com/jiracore/jira-core-7-2-x-release-notes-826896229.html in Service Desk Customer Portal as well.

Any update on this for JSM Cloud?

Simon Scott added a comment - Any update on this for JSM Cloud?

This says fixed, but I am not seeing this feature in our JSM (cloud) - is that a different card?

I'm not sure why this ticket isn't updated to reflect the current status, but reviewing the release notes of the next version of JSM it looks like a "Reich text editor on customer portal" is going to be released:

            https://confluence.atlassian.com/jiracore/preparing-for-jira-8-15-1032259123.html

We've added a rich text editor to Jira Service Management's customer portals to allow customers to raise requests and add comments using the markup language and having a visual feedback on what they type.

This rich text editor is different from the one used in Jira and only supports a subset of features (e.g. there are no user mentions or panels), mostly focusing on text formatting.

Here's the list of features it supports:

            • font size
            • font style (bold, italic, underline, etc.)
            • lists (unordered, ordered)
            • links
            • code blocks
            • block quotes

It probably doesn't help that this issue doesn't have an assignee and votes/comments on most issues for Jira seem to be ignored, but at least this may actually be getting released later this year when Jira 8.15/JSM 4.15 is released.

            Hi,

It's really very hard for our clients to create a proper ticket through a simple text editor and they are complaining about it.

            Thank you,

            Loizos

            Hi,

We also need the rich text editor on customer portal for comments and description.

            Thanks,

            Krishan

This basic feature is killing our usage of Service Desk. Not only for comments, but also for the creation of a ticket in the field Description. The customers want to create a nice Description of the problem and not a ugly plaintext description. The solution for now; create Word document and add as an attachment or just send an email to use and by-passing the Service Desk.

This is affecting 4000+ users, so this needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Please, do that! Prioritize it as high priority.

Here I see rich text editor - why not in JSD?

            Customers are complaining.

This missing basic feature is a show stopper.

Simple Edit does not work on the customer portal, either.

This is a much requested feature on our side. Should also be relatively simple to implement and make customers happy.

What actually wonders me the most is that there seems to be be an editor in the comment section, so you can not create a ticket while using the editor (but still throw in mark-up, which not every customer is capable of - why should they be, anyway), but can style any comment that follows however you please.
