      Summary

      Links with URLs containing certain non-alphanumeric characters fail to save

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Click open any issue
      2. Click on More and then Link
      3. Select Web Link
        Example: 
        http://company/projects/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fprojectweb%2FShared%20Documents%2FFF%20ER&FolderCTID=0E128&View= {A6-4B6B-44A79F36}
      4. Put a link with non-alphanumeric characters
      5. Save it by clicking on Link

      Expected Results

      The Link should be saved and viewable on the issue like any other web link.

      Actual Results

      Doesn't save. We get the following error on the UI

      Invalid 'URL'. Make sure you include the full URL (e.g. http://www.google.com).

      Workaround

      1. Go to Google Shortner at https://goo.gl/
      2. Paste the URL
      3. Google will generate a short url for your URL which you will be able to link in JIRA.
      4. Google will also be change your long URL to characters, which can also be saved onto JIRA

            Why the f*ck isn't this fixed - Gathering impact? Are you completely ...?

            Not being able to insert a link to eg. Azure Application Insight when reporting a Bug report is not a minor annoyance.

            We are paying for this product and expect such matters to be fixed ASAP.

             

            And yes, I don't excuse my language, but you have some excuses to do for your lack of customer support!

            Five years !!!

            I found a similar issue with horizontal line characters: "|" used by Sonar url links.

            e.g.
            https://abc.ch/sonar/component_issues/index?id=app-ios#resolved=false|assignees=_me_

            The link shows how jira parses and formats the link. The whole part after "|" is not marked blue and not taken into account for the link.

            Here is another URL which is perfectly supported by any browser but which makes JIRA inster URL choke:

            https://review.gerrithub.io/#/admin/groups/685,members 

            Also include a screnshot for the case where the editor would break the URLs:

            NB: JRA-40650 suggested that instead of preventing characters they should be URL-encoded
