When a space has gotten rather large (say a few thousand pages), the pagetree navigation will slow the browser if switched on during editing a page in that space. This is particularly a problem in flat pages. See also: CONF-11998
User symptoms: The page list is essentially on every edit page when the Locations control is listed. Hence when editing in a large space this will cause the JavaScript that is loading the page tree to run forever and often triggers browser warnings saying that a script is taking too long to run, as well as balloon the memory usage of the browser into the several hundred MB range.
