In the current implementation of page ordering for Confluence 2.8, we use the tree view to move the pages — both when viewing all pages in the "Browse Space" view and when adding/editing a page.
Improvement request:
Improve usability of page-ordering for large document spaces and accessibility.
One possible solution (but there are others) :
Instead of using the tree view, we could allow the user to choose a preceding page from a drop-down box, or some other type of "page picker" functionality. We'd also need to allow then to choose the parent page and parent space. We could offer this as an alternative, for example in add/edit page mode.
Reasons:
- For spaces with large numbers of pages (such as the DOC space on CAC) it is very very cumbersome to move a page. It took me five minutes to move a page from near the bottom to under the "Confluence 2.8 Release Notes". The nodes in the page tree insisted on opening one by one, and the scrolling was very slow.
- We should also consider a solution which is more accessible for people who have problems using a mouse.
