      Atlassian Update 4-Dec-2018

Hello, everyone! First, we want to thank you for your feedback. Secondly, since our last update there has been progress related to internationalization that we want to highlight:

      • JSD 3.3: customers can change their language preference in the portal by selecting Profile under their profile avatar, and then choosing to Edit their profile. This means the portal and future notifications will be sent to them in their chosen language.
      • JSD 3.9: we've added JIRA Service Desk support for all the languages supported by the JIRA platform, which now brings the total number of languages supported by JIRA Service Desk to 20. While JIRA admins can set the default language for your instance, users also can select their preferred language in their user profile. This helps JIRA Service Desk be more flexible for organizations with a diverse workforce.
      • JSD 3.14: added dutch to a growing list of languages available, out of the box.
      • JSD 4.11: implemented a feature allowing project admins to provide translations for customer portal in multiple languages

With this being said, we've been analyzing this request and the comments in it, and we understand that there is interest in expanding upon the existing internationalization features, and although we have exciting ideas related to this, they are not compatible with our current roadmap. For now, we have decided to include the request in the list for Future consideration, meaning that we see this as a candidate for our longer term roadmap, but will not be working on it at the moment and will re-evaluate it in the near future.

      Best regards

During my evaluation I discovered that JSD is not able to offer a
customer helpdesk in diffrent languages for diffrent customers.

In fact it is not even able to offer a proper helpdesk in an other
language as English, because of bugs in mailgeneration and a stating page
      (http://<JIRA-BASEURL>/servicedesk/customer/portals)
which does not seem to care about language at all.

Regarding the missing possibilty to select a language as customer I have
to state that I'm not only dissapointed but quite shocked.

There are countries in the world where the customer (and sometimes
also the law) expect support in the local language. If a company wants to
sell its products there AND also international, you always have the need
      a helpdesk in diffrent languages.

I simply cannot understand that JSD does not offer this.
As Jira Users can choose the language you already have anything you need to implement this:

      • a framework and a process to deal with translations.
      • a software which is capable of dealing with diffrent languages
      • a user profile implementation which deals with a language setting

Incredible! This is fantastic news. Thank you for sharing! I agree, I hope "soon" is actually soon. I'd be happy with it being in any time 2020.

Atlassian announced recently that the multilinguale support will be soon available for JSD Server -> Link
The question is how soon is soon?

Agreed, some companies cannot go the cloud route for government regulation reasons. The language support that appears to have been in cloud for years now would be great to have in Server.

Major drawback not having a multilanguage support in the server version. Cloud version has this feature. But not everyone wants Cloud. For this expensive piece of software in our global work environment, this is a must have. Please also provide the multilanguage support in server version !

            @Steve Dignard

Yes I installed the Translation for Jira Service Desk plugin and it seems to work fine (even if it's a pain to enter all the needed text keys).

But there is still the problem that for the Knowledge Base articels, it does not find the article in the correct language if you search (we are using the Scroll translation Plugin on Confluence to have there Multi-Language possibilities).

It is just a shame for such a big player like Atlassian that you are forced to use Plugins (for JSD and Confluence) to enable true Multi-Language, and then the different plugins "don't see each other" of course (So if the Portal of JSD is set to one Language, it is not searching the Knowledge Base in that same language)...

So using these Plugins is just a hack/work around and not a propper solution.

If you ask me, it would make sense for Atlassian to fully integrate true Multi-Language support on their side,
or go and buy the Scroll Translation Plugin and make sure it is fully integrated into all their Software (Cloud & Server!)

Claude, did you tried Translation for Jira Service Desk add-on?    I am still in trial version but It seem to work well.   I can easily provide a french and english version of my customer portal.

I rate Jira Service Desk to be a great piece of software.

But without a full Multi-Language support (Server version) it get's rendered fully worthless!

It is a shame this does not come out of the box, and that Atlassian does not take action to resolve this fast!

We need language options for our Service Desk Portal. Our organizations core business language is not English. This should be a default setting in Jiras portal settings in the future.

Without multi language support the service desk portal is useless for us. I don't understand why this features isn't on your roadmap. Unfortunately we must search for another tool, which supports multi language...
