      Atlassian Update – 2 Apr 2024

      Hello everyone,

Am delighted to update that we have released this resolution last Friday (29 March 2024).

It introduces a new toggle setting for "Receive emails when you make changes to issues" in the Notification setting page:

Thanks again for your patience and hope this addresses the problem.

      Regards,

      Raj

      Product Manager - Jira Software

      Atlassian Update –22 March 2024

      Hi all,

Apologies for the inconvenience due to this issue.

We are working on adding a new toggle setting for "Receive emails when you make changes to issues" in the Notification setting page, which will address this problem.

      Regards
      Raj Kumar
      Jira Software Product Manager

Regarding the introduction of the New Notifications Hub, which replaces the previous user notification preferences in personal settings (doc). As part of those changes, the option to receive notifications for your own actions has been removed, and the new Notification Hub does not offer a similar option. Having the option as it was before would be very useful:

      Potential Workaround:

      Automation:

The recorded quick video to explains how to create the rule :

      Parameters used in the video:

      Trigger: Issue created
      Action: Send email
      To: Reporter
      Subject:

      The issue {{issue.key}} was created

      Content:

      The issue {{issue.key}} was created.
      Issue Summary: {{issue.summary}}
      Link: {{issue.url}}

      Filter subscription:

If there are any concerns regarding the Automation execution limit, we have another option with Filter Subscriptions, in case you don't mind the users don't receive the email right away with the information of the issue created. The recorded quick video to explains a bit better the scenario on how to configure it:

The JQL used in the filter is the following:

created > startOfDay() AND reporter = currentUser()

Have we been given an ETA for this - you have removed a piece of functionality which we greatly relied on.  Please consider rolling back this change until it is fit for purpose.

Hi b35cb7ab4633 thank you for pointing that out. I have corrected the link and it should redirect to the correct video for the Automation rule creation.

In the ticket description, it says there are 2 workarounds: Automation rule for issue creation notification and Filter Subscription for Issues Created

But both of these link to the same video (for creating a subscription to a once daily email.) Are these supposed to be different workaround options/videos?

What is ETA on adding this functionality back, please?  It is critical to our operations, and based on comments, this is true for many of your Users.

I utilize the change emails to confirm that I've addressed a ticket.

These emails offer a convenient "confirmation".

Now, I need to review issues repeatedly to ensure I've taken action.

Please implement this as soon as possible.

It's unbelievable how you are unthankful to your customers. To break a basic feature that was used by many people for many years and now promising to try hard to get it back...
Why didn't you test it before and collect opinions? Why didn't you leave an option to get that feature back for those who need it badly?
            </emotions off>

Please, get notifications back ASAP - it's really hard now to track the development process and create reports by simply checking a mail folder

The new setup also ends up preventing notifications from users tagging themselves in a comment/issue, probably the main reason why a user would tag themselves in a comment - is to get a reminder to email for actioning later.

In terms of our work processes, the elimination of this previous function causes a big problem for us, we built our work around it, and it's gone now.

In some important situations, we need the involvement of colleagues by e-mail, who are not directly involved in the development and thus not Jira Software users. For this purpose we have been able to easily forward the e-mail notification received about the tickets we created/modified ourselves to them.

Now this important function for our work has been removed, in a paid service.

Please urgently restore this previously existing function, this is a serious limitation in the previous functionality for us!

This is not a change request because this feature existed until a few days ago.

Surely there have been enough customer responses to move this ticket from a status of "Gathering Interest" to "Getting it done" ?

We assign tickets to ourselves from a shared queue and rely on the email notification to track who is working on what, and to circle back to tickets that are pending response from another team. This process has been working for years and just stopped, apparently just when self assigning. Please put this feature back, or have a way we can turn it back on at a user level.

Please put this function back immediately. My work group does a shared service request queue and the emails help us keep track of what current requests we are working on and those we've re-assigned and are waiting to see come back. Without the assigned-to-self emails we have no filters we can create within Jira that can capture all of the scenarios of tickets we must maintain regardless of their work flow status.

I am not sure why you removed this basic functionality!

Please restore ASAP the ability to get email notifications for changes that I, as a user, have done.

Currently it has broken my method to find prior matching cases based on a keyword search in Outlook.

We are an integrator, and as part of our activity, we use own-action notifications to trigger specific tasks in our development teams as we synchronise Jira with our ticketing system. The removal of this feature has been a nightmare, and I see no added value for any use case, especially without proper notification to end users.

We add our name to the petition to reinstate the feature.

I'm missing this feature very much, because:

I'm using the notification emails of my own activities for time tracking.

In comparision to the Jira activity feed on "my profile page" the notification emails for my own activities provide a complete overview of all my activities per day and ticket.

The Jira activity feed only shows my latest activity on a ticket, so one ticket won't show up each day I've worked on it, but only on the latest day. To check on which days I've worked on this ticket I have to open it.

This clearly is a regression instead of a feature request, because there is absolutely no benefit in removing the option to allow some people to receive notifications about their own changes and others not to. The only somewhat useful discussion would have been about opt-in or opt-out of that feature. It as well fits pretty well into your current UI of checkboxes and I guess you are still checking in the implementation if a change was made by oneself or not.

Agreed with the other comments, this seems like a bug, especially since the option existed before hand. We have teams that use this email notification of changes they made for further process steps as well as confirmation that a change has been made and seen by other parties. The removal of this option has completely broken some of our staff workflows. We really need this back!

Totally agree, it is a very helpful functionnality. It allows us to have a complete history of each ticket (it's easy to filter one specific ticket in outlook or equivalent and have the complete history). Moreover, it can end some debate between product and dev teams about some modification of a ticket...

Please give it us back ! (asap )

Agree to have the feature returned. I use the email notifications to organize some workflow for team members within my email app. Appreciate the data is available within Jira but it is still handy to have the notifications, regardless of whether I raised the issue or not.

Agree with the need and honestly this feels more like a bug in need of a fix more than a feature request, as you removed existing functionality that worked fine.  If some users would prefer not to receive notifications for their own actions, that's fine - enhance the functionality with an option for this to be toggled off (as this issue suggests).  But by missing (or misunderstanding) ths requirement, you're handicapping those of us that rely on this notification.
