      Atlassian Update – August 2024

      Hi everyone,

Thank you for raising and voting on Default Description Templates. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping and enhancing Jira for all users.

Given the high volume of feature suggestions for Jira and issues in particular, we must prioritize those that provide the most value to the majority of our users. After a thorough review by the team, we have decided that we will not be able to implement Default Description Templates in the immediate future, but we hope the workaround described below using plugins is helpful.

Please remember that jira.atlassian.com is only one of many inputs for our roadmap. We’re continuously learning, analysing and interviewing customers to make Jira better. We encourage you to also share your feedback through Atlassian Community. Please also check out latest updates and upcoming plans from the Jira Cloud roadmap and the Atlassian Cloud release notes blog.

We understand that our decision may be disappointing. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or feedback.

      Regards,
      Angela Hawkins

      Problem Definition

JIRA Users would like the ability to set a default value in description fields.

      Suggested Solution

Provide ability to have a template to set default values for issues in the description field.

      Workaround

      1. Explained in this KB article: Setting a Default Value in the Description Field.
This requires editing of server files, thus is not possible in JIRA Cloud.
      2. Default Values Add-On (Now available for Cloud)
      3. Issue Templates Agent - fields, multi project, permissions (available on the Cloud)

Since migrating to the cloud, we've encountered a significant challenge in communicating to our users that certain functionalities available on-premises are no longer present in the cloud.

This is particularly difficult for an huge companies, where the expectation was that moving to the cloud would offer more capabilities, not fewer.

This situation has caused considerable discomfort and dissatisfaction among our users, which has placed additional pressure on Atlassian products local administrators within the company. It feels as though this issue isn't being fully acknowledged by Atlassian

Adding another vote for this. This would be extremely helpful. Almost feels like a regressed functionality, in the sense that Jira Server self hosted had this functionality over a decade ago, and it also already exists in Team Managed cloud projects.

We started using Jira Product Discovery recently and it does support issue templates, not sure what's the difficulty adding this to Jira Software.

Predefined templates are a must have! Especially having the possibility to add predefined infobox, description etc.  to a User Story.
