    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

      Problem Definition

      • Currently organization administrators(org admins) don't have any control over a managed user's privacy settings:

      Suggested Solution

      • Allow org admins to control the user's privacy setting
      • Allow org admins to set default privacy settings for the claimed domain
      • Restrict privacy settings to specific sites - ID-7046

      Why this is important

      • Some org admins may want full control of their managed users' account privacy settings - there might be company policies regarding what can/can't be displayed
      • Specific departments/groups may want to have different(enforced) privacy settings

      Workaround

      • No known workarounds - a workaround will be added if a suitable workaround is found

[ID-7166] Allow organization administrators(org admins) to have full control over user profile privacy settings

This is an issue for University customer (or any customer that falls within the scope of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); because we cannot hide profile information by default, the time between provisioning a student user (customer) and when the student can change their privacy settings themself would put us out of compliance a liable. Therefor, we cannot auto provision our student customers. We aren't even sure if having the student provision themselves with a default privacy of Public will be sufficient for FERPA regulations.

If we cannot have control over the default privacy setting, then the default privacy setting should be set to "Organization" or even more restrictive. Public is obviously not the right call from a personal data protection perspective.
