Summary

Customers have observed various problems if Confluence is installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 due to a system font problem on the operating system level (see: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1484079). Please view the linked bugs/KBs below to workaround this issue in Confluence.

Fail to insert macros using shortcut keys - CONFSERVER-55320
Fail to add or view attachments - CONFSERVER-55321
Fail to render file previews (view-file macro) - CONFSERVER-55322
Fail to render some JIRA gadgets (in JIRA, but also in Confluence if brought over as an external gadget) -

Recommendation

Short term - create health check warning in logs and possibly Support Tools to warn administrators whose installations are hosted on RHEL 7.4
Longer term - We should explore moving away from system fonts as a dependency
