For clarity, we actually added the group auto-complete to more than just the page restrictions. It was also added to -

• space permissions
• default space permissions
• global permissions

Resolving this issue also is the final requirement to resolving this long standing issue -

• CONF-16472 Page Restrictions: Add quicksearch to Enter user/group name(s)

An obvious area where you might expect to find the component is -

• CONF-24104 Use an autocomplete text input for group selection

Unfortunately, addressing this is blocked by the stalled issue -

• CONFDEV-12166 Improve adding groups to users

It is causing confusion.
When some types a group name then the auto complete says, "No Matches" which leads a user to believe they've done something wrong.

This is currently a improvement request because while the auto complete does not work for group names, group names can be entered into the box. I.e. you can enter the full group name like "confluence-users" and it will add the group to the restriction.

If we were to change the text, then users would not know they can enter in group names.

If this is causing confusion however, we can change the text.

This is clearly a bug. The box say Enter User or Group Name. Either it should find groups or the text should be changed.

I'd say that this is now a bug. In 3.2 the auto complete Page Restrictions dialog says "Enter user or group name" but only works with user names.
