Feature request

Desired behaviour:

• Ability to copy & paste content from external source, that includes both text and an image

Current behaviour:

• In most cases, text is pasted but image does not appear
• Varied results depending on browser (see details below)

Details on the issue

The reason for this is that when copying from an external source, content is copied in different formats - e.g. when copying from Microsoft Word, content is copied in base64 format. When copying from Google Docs, content is copied in a specific Google format.

For example, when copying text and image from OneNote, the results vary depending on browser:

• IE 8 - No option to paste images.
• Firefox 7 - Image doesn't copy or paste on Mac, works perfectly on Win7.
• Safari 5.1 - Image copies and appears in the edit window, then appears as a broken link when saved.
• Chrome - Text is copied, images not.

Suggested workarounds

• Upload the image directly to Confluence
• Sometimes copying and pasting into another tool before pasting in the Editor results in a successful paste. E.G. sometimes copying from OneNote, pasting into Word, then copying from Word and pasting into the Editor has resulted in all content being pasted successfully
• Copy and paste images separately

Related issues

Symptoms of this issue have been reported as bugs previously; while we understand this is frustrating, the ability to copy & paste from other formats is not a supported feature. We are tracking customer impact and interest on this suggestion, to help us prioritise this work within our broader roadmap for the Editor.
