      Atlassian Update: October 21, 2020

      Hi Confluence Cloud customers,

I have some exciting news! We have started working on this feature and it should be rolling out in the coming months. It is certainly about time, and I’m looking forward to seeing this improvement help you move work forward faster in Confluence. Thank you again for continuing to share your feedback with us.

Also, be sure to check out our new public cloud roadmap: https://www.atlassian.com/roadmap/cloud

      Best,
      Tim Clipsham

It would be great if in addition to moving a page and all its children, you could instead create a copy in a different space.

      Workaround:
Some Space Clone options can be found at How to copy or rename a space in Confluence

@Tim Clipsham Commenting here on the advice of Atlassian Support, despite it being a closed ticket: my company too needs to copy over 500 pages fairly frequently – a task we accomplished without issue for years when using ScriptRunner and Confluence Server. The largest of the spaces that contains our public-facing documentation consists of over 740 pages and we need to create a snapshot of the docs every time we release a new version of our software (at least three times a year, sometimes a lot more). Discovering that we now can't do this without resorting to workarounds (copy in blocks of 500 pages) or further add-ons like Copy Page Tree, mentioned above, is not helping the case for retaining Confluence Cloud as our docs platform within the company I work for.

I still need the four Copy options to be select/not select

            • Copy Attachments     (just like Copy Page Tree plugin)
            • Copy Comments     (just like Copy Page Tree plugin)
            • Copy Restrictions     (just like Copy Page Tree plugin)
            • Copy Labels

Yep, that's correct. At this stage, we support a maximum of 500 pages in a single bulk copy to ensure Confluence performs at its highest levels. The same limit also currently applies to bulk archiving.

pirkka.palmumaki Have you encountered any scenarios yet where you needed to copy more than 500? If so how many pages were there? (any other details regarding your use case would be helpful too )

            Thanks,

Prika, I just checked & yes that is true that the Heirchay is limiting it to 500 pages. I am from Artemis Software & our App Copy Page Tree limits it at 2000 pages. We have a page https://artemis.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SUP/pages/1436647429/Copy+Page+Tree+compared+to+Copy+a+Hierarchy+of+pages that compares the two if that is something you'd be interested in.

Is it really true that you cannot copy more than 500 sub-pages at once? This seems like very restricting trait on a feature that was on the designing table for more than 10 years.

            Spot on @Richard Couture

Not being able to exclude attachments is just as bad as not being able to include attachments 🤦‍♂️

as I have stated in the two issues Tim referred to:

            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-71712 (comments option)
            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-19389 (attachments option)

The four Copy options should be to select/not select

            • Copy Attachments
            • Copy Comments
            • Copy Restrictions
            • Copy Labels

Everyone ... whilst you may see Copy Hierarchy as a great jump forward (despite having taking 15 years to be done) ...... please jump onto those two other issues and vote, vote, vote, vote ....

When you've been sold a 4-wheel car with two missing tyres, it is no time to pat the seller on the back because you finally got cup-holders!!

As the Copy Page Tree plugin can provide these options, surely Atlassian themselves can do it ... and do it quickly without the need for extensive "gathering interest" ... it is just OBVIOUS it should be fixed immediately.

I think Tim, you are missing the point of Rodney, you do not have the option to select or not the attachments. There is no easy way to remove, in bulk, attachments to a page. I use pages to manage documents relating to projects. A majority of the page can be reused for a new project for the same client (references, addresses etc.). However the ability to say that I want to not copy the attachments is a great option when copying to a new page, one that I am forced to currently use the most with the Artemis pluggin.

Hi rgh1, thanks for calling this out. Regarding attachments, these are included in the copy. For comments, however, they are not included in the copy - we weren’t able to include this in the scope of what we shipped. In transparency, at this stage adding an option to copy comments isn’t on our roadmap which I can understand is hard to hear given you hoped for more in this feature release.

I’ve created a new issue on your behalf to capture this and to gauge broader interest from Atlassian customers. Please feel free to add anything to the ticket that I've missed or any further details on the specific use cases you have that will help us better understand the need.

I'm baffled that this isn't supported. Its extremely tedious to copy a space. You won't let us change a space key, so in order to rename a space completely, we have to copy a space in to a new space, which is fine I guess. But you won't even let us copy child-pages?! Come on...

We are a new Confluence customer for a specific project.  Compared to SharePoint, the Confluence UI is much easier to use, and I would like to recommend using this product for our entire org.  Adding features such as this is very important to show that Confluence is continuously improving based on user needs/requests.  It makes it much easier to pitch Confluence as the obvious choice when compared to competitors (esp. SharePoint).  Thank you Tim and the entire Confluence Team!

For everyone having this issue, which is a complete pain... I did find a way to get what I needed in the cloud version using POSTMAN. You can copy page hierarchy from one space to another spaces page. You can also create some automation around it using curl, etc. pick your poison.

The functionality described here is indispensable for every small to large enterprise implementing recurring processes.

I didn't see a single company, which wouldn't need that.

Created:27/Feb/2005 11:22 PM ? Did Atlassian Cloud even exist at that time?

I don't think Atlassian will work on this unless there's a revenue risk. I'd suggest everyone bring this up during your renewal contracting w/ Atlassian as a product gap that needs to be committed to before a renewal will be signed

Any update on this? There are numerous people in our organization who have requested this feature. I'm somewhat confused why such a simple Copy Page and All Child Pages feature hasn't been integrated after 15 years of requests. Please assign this ticket to someone to get it moving. Much obliged.

As a company we are investigating Confluence to use for all are documents (500+). Each document consists of multiple pages, diagrams etc. and has a version. On a regular basis a new version is brought out.
The ability to copy the document tree to a new version is an essential feature for us.

Lacking this feature is a show stopper.

Why is this feature available in Confluence server and not in Confluence cloud? How hard can it be?

We seriously consider replacing Confluence because this feature misses. Could you clarify your position ASAP and have a little consideration for your customers?

All: I opened a second ticket with my Premium support on just how long this ticket has been open; 15+ years.

Here's two responses from Atlassian's Tim Clipsham who commented:

            (7/31) Hi Glenn,

I just wanted to confirm that I haven't forgotten about this request. I'm still working through some final tricky feasibility points that we need to iron out before I can share more. I expect to have an update to share with you soon.

            Thanks,
            Tim Clipsham

            Hi Glenn,

First of all, I’m sorry for how long this ticket has been alive. As Steven highlighted, it was only just over a year ago I was on the other side of the fence, and so I can relate to how frustrating it is when an important ticket seems to get no attention from Atlassian.

My team and I have recently re-assessed the effort involved to ship CONFCLOUD-2814 because of the demand and the value of this ticket. I want to see it resolved, but I’m also wary of giving false hope. I should have a clear answer in the coming month and I’ll personally let you know and organize an update on the JAC ticket as well.

            Thanks,
            Tim Clipsham

We're sure what's blocking this basic request: they're just not listening. More than a year ago, when considering whether or not to adopt confluence, which ticked many boxes, the tech manager in my company looked at the time they'd already taken to fail to give a response on this basic request, and chose a different solution on the difficult-to-contest argument that they have no customer support.

            Hi Guys,

If i want to reuse a page and its children, there is no possibility here in cloud,

No possibility on selective page xml import, no possibility of copying pages with children,

This is one of the very basic & helpful features from Confluence. But you are blocking it for Confluence  cloud users.

Look at the count of votes and watches.  and Please understand, this is not a new functionality ( Existing in Server), not sure whats blocking you to implement here.

Please try to implement the feature asap.

            best Wishes

            Bala

Please enable copy page tree on cloud. I have entire space templates that I stamp out at customer sites, covering: DevOps, Agile, Design Thinking and Product management. Copy page tree allows me to copy all relevant parts without having to organise a whole site copy and trying to prune pages I don't need.

I agree - we use Copy Page Tree in our Server instance of Confluence.

Although Atalssian have implemented a standard page tree copy facility in the Server platform, they forgot to implement an option to copy Comments as well  .. so I still use CPT because of that !!

Just get the Copy Page Tree Macro, because Atlassian will never add this feature. I've seen forums with the same request since 2010

since 2005 when this was created, at say 2 metres/second, that tumbleweed would have travelled ~946 million km !!

Please can the facility to include the transfer of child pages in the copying across to another location. This is not very user firendly as i will require to copy each and every page under the main page I am copying.

I've created an information pack in Confluence, which has been set up as a template for others to copy and use. Could not believe that there was no longer an option to copy child pages. Why would they get rid of this functionality? Please bring it back!
