When copying a page provide an option to bring over attachments or not

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently if you copy one Confluence page to another, there aren't any options to specify if you would like to copy the pages attachments over or not; they are all simply copied over. I know of at least one person who would prefer to have the option to copy a page without bringing over the attachments.

Perhaps this could be done with a checkbox per attachment during the copy operation.

Hi everyone- I’m DJ Chung, a PM on the Confluence team. Thank you for raising this issue, but we currently don't have plans to prioritize it in the near future. We will provide updates on this as we have them.

[CONFCLOUD-19389] When copying a page provide an option to bring over attachments or not

Many users frequently copy previous pages to create similar ones. However, since there is no longer an option to exclude attachments during this process, a significant amount of storage space is being wasted. The problem exacerbates each time additional attachments are included every time a page is copied anew.

Why was this feature supported in Confluence Server/Data Center but not in Confluence Cloud? With every new issue of this nature, switching to the cloud increasingly feels like a downgrade.

I would be happy if only active attachments were copied, not orphaned (phantom) ones. Please see my question:

Confluence creates phantom attachments when a page is copied?

I would be equally happy if no attachments were copied and you had to manually copy attachments.  The current implementation is the worst of all possible ways of implementing copy.

Explicit is always better than Implicit - the Zen of Python.

Perhaps a Space-level file / attachment storage approach? Like a single-instance storage approach etc? Attachments in pages are actually just links to a single instance of a digital file...? No worries then with page copy actions - because there are no files actually stored separately against the page.

The go around i found to this issue is NOT COPYING THE PAGE but only the contents, open  a clean new page and paste the copied contents. delete the attachments that do not need to be published again. then publish the new page.

We are copying a specific document every week to generate a report page. The page has a large video attached to it and the storage space is snowballing.

This describes my current experience over the past 2 weeks to the letter.

"+1 Seriously, I didn't even know about this issue until I recieved email about storage issue and started looking around and found out something weird going on with the number showing for attachment storage for each space. And then there is the issue that there is no bulk deleting those attachment files. Now we have ppl going back on years of pages to delete files that they didn't even know they still had."

There is no option to take over or not take over attachments, so it is taking a lot of time for users to copy pages.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved.

Would be great to have the option to include page content attachment like inline images - which might be useful in a page copy depending on context - but exclude attached files like Office documents, PDFs, bulky media files etc

            Something like:

The page you are copying contains inline images and some attached files:

[ ] Copy inline images to new page?

[ ] Copy attached files to new page? (not recommended)

+1, not having this option and having attachments copied by default resulted in a TON of storage issues and now we can't even bulk delete them? https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-17020. Is this just a ploy so Confluence can upsell us when we exceed 250GB storage?
