[CONFSERVER-23322] Editing attachments in Office fails with Google Chrome

Thanks for your patience on this issue. In Confluence 6.11, we’ve replaced the Edit in Office option with a new feature that allows you to edit any file attached to a Confluence page using a desktop application, then automatically save the file back to Confluence.

You can now edit Microsoft Offices documents, Photoshop files, Keynote presentations — any attached file with a compatible application installed on your computer.

Check out the release notes to read more about this feature.

Found we are unable to edit Office 2010 documents with current version of Chrome.

I am a pilot user for Office 365 (on purpose) and found that the 'edit in office' works with Office 365 and Chrome.

For those on lower versions of Office, an alternative is to use the add-on "GoEdit" until you upgrade.

            Hi all,

I'm pleased to let you know that we've started work on this issue.

As previously mentioned, we've decided to make a significant investment to overhaul this feature. Users will be able to edit not only Office documents but most types of file, and have their changes saved back to Confluence. We will be working to ensure the new functionality works across browser and OS versions.

In the interim, please checkout our compatibility matrix in the Atlassian Support Documentation to confirm current functionality.

            Best,

I'm on Windows 7 Pro with Word 2013, Chrome  65.0.3325.181, and Confluence 5.9.11. The Edit Document feature works for just fine for Word documents when used from the location of the inserted Word document on the Confluence page. We had to disable the ability to open Office documents from the attachments lists due to a large number of user complaints, so I don't know if that works for me or not.

Hm, maybe the combination of Office 2010 with an unsupported Windows version is the issue. When using Office 2010 using Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 is not supported.

It works even with Confluence 6.5.1 and Chrome 64.0.3282.186 and Office 2013... at least in our environment.
And I don't have to use the link on the attachment page. The edit button on the main page works well.

@Jan-Peter @Daniel: Doesn't work for me in Confluence on 6.6.1 and Office 2010 (yes... 2010) and Chrome 64.0.3282.186.

@Jonathan Did you ever try "Edit in Office" in Chrome when viewing the Attachments page (Page menu > Attachments). Works here with latest Chrome using Confluence Server 6.6.2. No need for a pretty expensive addon which relies on a local installed component.

Having this issue (together with Firefox support) resolved, would be great. Hint just remove the check for Chrome when previewing a an office file... Should be a quick fix for over 500 votes

@Jenny Millman: Will this be on the 2018 roadmap?

@Matin Schiemann: GoEdit (paid add-on) is the only workaround I know of for "edit in office" functionality in Chrome.
