NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Confluence should allow you to add search engines to its search, sort of a "Federated Search". We use Jive software as well as all Atlassian products. Since confluence has opensearch, Jive allows us to add a search URL for confluence. Then when searching from our Jive SBS site, it also returns search results from our Confluence Wiki. It would be great if we could also do the reverse from confluence. You could add search engine descriptors for any number of other Cots products that offer opensearch. This would allow you to tie all of your products together more seamlessly.

            [AI-635] Implement a Federated Search

Hi all, I'm happy to share that this feature is shipped and available in Rovo Search

And now that we've announced that Rovo Search will be shipping to customers (see https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Atlassian-Intelligence-articles/Coming-in-hot-from-Team-25-Rovo-is-for-EVERYONE/ba-p/2994096) you'll be able to use this feature in the coming months as we rollout Rovo

BTW I don't favor the hub and spoke open search approach. The search engine should be independent of the searchable apps. In this way you basically plug in your all your apps to the search engine. larger enterprises will have an enterprise bus/SOA stack and will connect (like USB cables in a USB hub) both the Search Engine as well as the Apps into the bus.

Confluence is the best wiki there is. Period. This means it is used in many places and becomes part of the enterprise application landscape.
Confluence will not evolve like JIVE into a total community platform. It will ALWAYS be used in conjunction with other Best of Breed elements like Chatter, Signals, Yammer, Hangout. And also in conjunction with email, databases, enterprise apps. Whatever is needed in the company.

I've been trying for 2 years to get federated/enterprise search to work including using a Google Search Appliance. No luck until now. So we are pretty much bogged down not being able to move forward and not being able to just depart since migrating to another wiki is a serious amount of effort only to be done in emergency.

I'd like to buy a common off the shelf Enterprise/Federated Seach like Google GSA, Autonomy, FAST, Endeca etc and be able to both index and scrub the results based on the ACL of Atlassian Confluence and all that using Atlassian Crowd SSO.
