Hi everyone,
I am really excited to share that the long-awaited improvements to managed account search have now been rolled out to all customers. This change means you will now be able to more easily search by first and last name, as well as by email address. Upon searching, the results will narrow considerably, and you’ll be able to quickly find who you were looking for.
In more technical terms, we have replaced the old sub-string matching behavior with a more natural prefix search that works across an account's first and last name and email address. A few notable changes in behavior include:
- Fully qualified email addresses – Only return unique search results for fully qualified email addresses. For example, bob@acme.com
matches bob@acme.com
but not alice@acm.com
- First/last name prefixes - Only return search results that match the prefix. There is no longer any in-fix or sub-string matching. For example, “Ali” matches “Alice Doe” and “Ali Doe”, while “Alice” only matches “Alice Doe”.
- Email address prefixes - Only return search results that match username or domain name prefixes. For example, “ali” matches alice@acme.com
and bob@alien.net
, but not bob@palindrome.net
__
This rollout is the first step in addressing your most pressing search performance concerns, and we scoping additional improvements that would make search performance even better.
In the meantime, https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ACCESS-1099 and https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ACCESS-1042 remain open, and we encourage you to watch and upvote these tickets if you’ve been impacted by these issues.
We are working hard to create the best overall experience for as many customers as possible, in line with our company values, and your feedback is instrumental in helping us do just that.
Best regards,
Ilya Bagrak

h4.Current Scenario
When an organization has verified domain, by going to *admin.atlassian.com* > *User directory* > *Managed accounts*, it is possible to add characters to search for users. When searching for users, multiple results will be displayed instead of only the ones matching with the specific search. As explained in the [Managed accounts article|https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/administer-managed-accounts-for-an-organization-873871203.html?_cachebust=8947658411] the search criteria works based on 3 characters: {quote} From the *Managed accounts* page, you can search accounts by name and email address. When your search criteria is more than 3 characters, we return results that match at least 3 continuous characters in your search criteria in addition to results that include the full string. {quote} h4.Suggestion When an organization has multiple accounts, putting the full email of a user will return a lot of results that can cause confusion for scenarios where for some reason, the account is not displayed or scenarios where it is necessary to filter single results. This is a suggestion to either: # Update the search to work based on single results matching the search criteria, like the [user management for Atlassian Cloud instances|https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/manage-your-users-744721645.html]. # Include a dropdown to allow the search type to be used (single or multiple results). By allowing the administrator to select the type of search to use, it would make the product more flexible and meet a broader range of needs. |
