When you have cloned a repository and it fell behind after while, you can see an arrow with how many commits you are behind. See:
But when you have a repository with submodules, and one of the submodules is behind, there is no simple way to see this. You need to open the repository by clicking on the submodule. This isn't a problem with a few submodules, but we have some projects with 30 or more. See:
There should be an easier way to see submodules' ahead/behind.
