Description
Especially for natural language files, a word diff is often the best way to understand what has changed: it could be simply the addition of a period to a 200 character line. If diffs are simply line-based, one needs to look at a lot of characters to figure out what happened.
Git has a --word-diff flag (try --word-diff=porcelain). I don't use Mercurial, but I would expect it has something similar.
