I would like to have a compact view option. In short, I think the new view is too spaced out.

In other words, each row should take less vertical space, more like the 2.6 view.

If I could choose compact versus loose display, I would choose compact every time.

Perhaps it could be a theme.

            Issue fixed in v4.2.8

The new compact display option in SourceTree 4.2.8 is wonderful! It has allowed me to finally upgrade after many years, as the intervening versions had not been useful. Thank you for fixing this at last! My M1 iMac is a high resolution display and the history is very easy to read.

It appears that with version 4.2.8 history display has been shrank, making it almost unreadable for someone using a high resolution display. There should definitely be the option to increase the application accessibility, an issue also highlighted other times (like in https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Sourcetree-questions/How-to-increase-font-size-in-SourceTree/qaq-p/595213)

Wow!  I've used SourceTree 2.6.3 every single day for many years and for some reason (that I already forgot) I decided that I should probably upgrade since I noticed that it is up to 4.2.5 and I generally like to stay on new versions.  As soon as the app reopened, my immediate reaction was "this view is too spaced out, let me change to the compact view."  I couldn't find it so I asked the internet and this ticket quickly popped up.  There is no compact view!  I really cannot believe it.  And the last comment was three years ago so I guess the community just gave up.  But now I have to figure out how to downgrade back to 2.6.3 without losing all my preferences.  Wish me luck...

2+ years have passed and still no resolution. There was no discussion for 9 months already. Everybody has moved to Fork and forgotten about Sourcetree.

Considering the many bugs in ST that have not been fixed since ever, the UI that's getting worse each release, I just tried Fork and it seems better at first glance.

Exactly because of this I had used ST 2.6 just until last week when I updated because of security issues. SourceTree 3 is not an improvement to SourceTree 2 at all. compact view, columns properly adapting to the viewport and a nothing freezes in the GUI.. things that work in ST 2 but don't in ST 3.

So, with the latest critical security fix, I finally have to upgrade from 2.6.3 to 3.1.1 (even though the in-app upgrade only goes up to 3.0.1 at this point). Now I'm stuck with this layout even on an 11" screen. PLEASE add an option for compact display soon.
