Im using SourceTree 2.7.2 on OS X 10.12.6.

It looks like someone did a design pass on the main SourceTree UI, where all the commits are listed, and decided adding a bunch of white space would be "nicer" in some way.

I use SourceTree professionally, so productivity is paramount to me, not aesthetics.  Reducing the amount of info on the screen so that I have to scroll more, and so that I can see less of our team's overall commit flow is a huge loser for me.  Maybe the designer should look at the density of info on a typical developer's screen in the Terminal and/or IDE windows.

Is there a preference somewhere to restore the previous layout?
