      Problem definition

      Currently, 'help and instructions' for fields associated with Request types cannot be consistently formatted according to Text Formatting Notation. Some formatting will work, but some will not (for example, lists do not get formatted properly, tables cannot be rendered, text breaks do not work).

      Suggested resolution

      Make formatting functionality consistent Text Formatting Notation, so that the field help on Customer portal could be formatted the same way as in Jira.

      Workaround

      While not all text formatting notation is supported in the 'help and instructions' section for fields, a large variety of formatting is available:

      • Text Effects can be used to change the formatting of words and sentences, such as bold, italic, underline, colours superscript and subscript
      • A Heading size can be selected for the instructions to be displayed in.
      • Links can be used, including URLs, user names, and email addresses.
      • Advanced formatting such as a variety of panels
      • Other such as symbols, emojis, and special characters

            [JSDSERVER-570] Rich text formatting in the request type 'help and instructions' field

            It will be nice to have rich functionality

            Would love to see a guide to see what is possible; I'm able to cobble together MOST of what I need with the existing syntax, however one big one I'm stuck on is to prevent it from doing the 'Show More' and hiding the content with a rollover link (I really want to users to see the whole tip at all times). Anyone find a way around that ?

            it's not possible to do heading (h1..6) in the "Help and instructions" area without making the entire text a heading 🤦🏻‍♂️ Sorry but what kind of engineer implemented this...?!

            I used the table formatting similar to Trevor showed in a previous comment.  However i can't get bullets to show up more than once.  Very frustrating...

            We ran into this same bug as we've been working to build our our list of portal requests. At least being able to have parity with the Markup documentation would make sense.

            Also, could the Help field be converted from a single line field into a text box? Editing text is extremely difficult since you can't see it all if your help text is long (and contains markup).

            @billy buchanan

            I've confirmed that tables don't appear to be working.  Atlassian's Text Formatting Notation Help page says to do it like this:

            I tried it this way and it didn't work:
            {{ ||Header1| |Header2|| |This|That| }}
            Also this way didn't work:
            {{ ||Header1| |Header2|| // |This|That| }}

            However this does work:

            To do this:
            Step 1

            • Update the following list of computers and/or specs:

              SPECS: Please make your selection on the left

              HP Laptop: Zbook Studio G3 (Win 10)

              i7-6820HQ - Quad Core + HT 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB NVME SSD 15.6" 1080p LCD NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 4GB GDDR5

              HP Laptop 840 G3 (Win 10)

              i7-6600U - Dual Core + HT 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB SSD 14" 1080p LCD

              Use this markup:

              Step 1 Update the following list of computers and/or specs:
              SPECS: Please make your selection on the left \\ {panel:title=HP Laptop: Zbook Studio G3 (Win 10)|titleBGColor=#F3F3F3}i7-6820HQ - Quad Core + HT 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB NVME SSD 15.6" 1080p LCD NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 4GB GDDR5{panel}
