      Summary

When adding a custom field (user picker) to the Customer Portal in Service Desk, customers are unable to use the user picker (even if they the Global Permission Browse Users)

      Environment

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create a custom field that utilizes the user picker
      2. Add custom field to a Service Desk Project Request Type
      3. Ensure that Service Desk Customers are listed in Global Permissions Browse Users

      Expected Results

      User Picker works

      Actual Results

User Picker does not appear. Field is a plain text field

      Notes

Even adding Anyone to the Global Permission Browse Users does not work.
In previous version of JIRA, this used to work
      ex: JIRA 7.1 & Service Desk 3.1.1

      Workaround

      1. Browse to Project Settings > Customer Permissions > Who can customers share requests with?
      2. Change this permission to ** Any customer or organization, by searching in this project**

Linked to JSDSERVER-5406 since enabling "Any customer or organization, by searching in this project" allows reporters of the ticket to create users outside of the domain.

            Hi,

I found in the Project settings - > Customer permissions the role Who can customers share requests with? , so I choosed the option Any customer or organization, by searching in this project and the custom field becamed enabled to search users by any customer .

Using Service Desk 3.9 on Jira 7.6. Still have the same issue.

Used the workaround suggested by Wioletta Szumial and https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDCLOUD-5921
            Why is this issue closed?

Same problem it does not fill the needs... Having the opportunity to choose someone in a user picker doesn't mean we want everybody to be able to see all requests...

This workaround does not fit our use case.  The users in our custom user field is limited only to people in the "Service Desk Customers" role; we want to show everyone.  We want customers (managers) to be able to pick anyone in the organization (all employees), even if they are not a customer.

Thank you Wioletta Szumial for adding the work around here. It worked for me although I agree with Remedy Partners - it does not make any sense. The permission I had to add is talking about sharing and in no way is related to selecting User Picker custom field in Customer Portal. Not sure why this issue is Closed without changing anything in Service Desk

This makes no sense.  The language in this choice has no relation to granting the permission to browse users.

            Hi,

I had the same problem with JIRA Service Desk 3.3, but this resolution above give me the answer.

Except "Global Permission Browse Users" I had to add ** this permission (like above), but it was somewhere else:

and now in Customer Portal, my customers can use auto complete in my custom fields:

            Regards,

            Wiola Szumial

            Hi technik6,

In order to allow customers to use auto complete feature in the user picker fields in the Customer portal, please go to the Project Settings of your service desk project > Request security page, and update the following setting:

Please get back to us if this is still a problem after updating the settings.
