This is the most basic reporting feature and it's very surprising that it's not included.

This has my vote.  I need to know how the status of my ticket population changes over time to be able to see how changes in process affects clients experience of our service.

I also would like to see this feature, I want to be able to report on how many tickets are in each state over time

I agree, having a report on concurrent in flight changes per time frame would be idea for what we do and our changes span over multiple days

To expand on the initial request, it might make more sense (and be easier to implement) to allow for a count of tickets that match a JQL filter (either saved or typed in-line) as a series.  There are several other places in Jira that allow for this, seems like a good fit.

I could imagine a simple use case on a Created vs Resolved Report.  In addition to showing the created and resolved count for each data point, also show the results of a JQL filter (number open, number waiting for support, etc).

Just ran into this issue (new user). If baffles me that this isn't included,

This means that I can't see a graph of my total amount of e.g. open issues a day for that last month. Besides filters (that only offers current data) is there any way to get historical data?
