      With the implementation of JIRA 7 we are no longer able to add customer portals to existing projects, any project with a customer portal must be of the service desk project type.

      This is a really big problem for us as most of our service desks are actually for business users to raise project risks and issues for governance, and setting the projects as the service desk type means the project navigation sidebar becomes useless for the people working in the project - we don't use queues or SLAs, our projects are mostly for development.

      The few areas of our organisation that DO use JSD as a more traditional service desk actually do their work in Agile boards, as all our projects are a mix of development, enhancement and operational tasks, so even for these projects we want the project type to be "software" rather than "service desk" (none of our 500+ projects want the service desk project type).

      Are there any plans to re-enable the ability to just have a customer portal for any project? The current implementation is unfortunately unworkable for us in the medium to long term.

            Makes zero sense to have a ticketing system which doesn't allow customers to view the status of their tickets, regardless of "project" location within the Jira infrastructure. Please add this functionality for our customers and know that without this function, Jira is preventing us from adding hundreds of developers/engineers into our license pool.

            My company needed this so bad they built their own customer portal with Jira integration.

            We really need the ability to do this with our existing setup, we have a Business Project that lets us build Projects through Epics/Tasks/Sub-Tasks, and our clients need to be able to submit change requests to existing projects.

            Without a Customer Portal, we have to manage client change requests manually.

            Agreed. I'm looking for two features and Jira seems to not currently allow them together. I'd like a Kanban board view of issues/tickets and the ability for clients to use a customer portal. I can get them separately, but not together.
