      Update - 30 January 2025

      Hi all,

Happy New Year! I wanted to provide a quick update on the Assets Backup/Restore functionality. We have commenced development and are actively working on this feature. Our target is to have it available by July 2025. As we progress, we will share more precise dates. Please stay tuned for further updates.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

      Problem Definition

Currently, customers do not have a way to backup Assets data and configuration.

      Suggested Solution

Provide the ability to backup Assets objects and Assets configuration

      Workaround

Customers have to manually  export objects under each object type. You may use Assets REST APIs calls to export objects and keep their backup: JSDCLOUD-9879. Soon the object schema level exports will be available as well with JSM Assets.

Or, there is a marketplace app that currently provides the option of backup and restore for Assets:  Insight Assets Backup & Migration

Thank you for sharing the exciting news about Atlassian's upcoming launch of the Assets Backup/Restore functionality in July 2025. This is indeed a highly anticipated feature that we certainly have been eagerly waiting for.

As we look forward to the launch, I have a few questions I hope you can answar:

            1. Will the backup feature be available for individual schemas, or is it expected to be applied to the entire asset at a time? In other words, can users selectively choose which parts of an asset to backup, or is it an all-or-nothing approach?

            2. Are there any specific requirements or prerequisites for utilizing the backup/restore functionality? For example, will users need to have certain permissions or access levels to perform backups or restores?

            3. Are there any limitations or restrictions we should be aware of during the trial? This could include factors such as the size of the assets that can be backed up, any specific file formats supported, or any other considerations that may affect the usage or performance of the feature.

            4. Are there any possibility that Atlassian will share there roadmap for this feature ?

            Best Regards
            Stephanie

7260236ab89d Would it make sense to add those componenets in this request, to give some visbility on it to the team in charge of the new Atlassian Backup?

Happy New Year, everyone! May it be filled with joy, success, and - who knows - maybe even some miracles. Like Atlassian resolving to fix this bug. We can dream, right?

Atm I have to regulary go to each object and export the CSV to have at least some kind of backup, this takes me like an hour.
Please prioritize this feature, all those fancy additional features are meaningless if I cannot secure my data. Especially since after deleting something its just gone, not even a restore from bin or archiving option.
I dont even understand how its possible to market it as a Enterpise Tool, every enterprise requires backups.

            Hi everyone,

My name is Vish, and I'm from the Jira Service Management team - we hear your frustration with the wait-time for Assets Backup/Restore functionality - and I want to make sure it's clear that Atlassian is absolutely committed to the delivery of this must-have feature.

We will share a timeline for when to expect delivery of this by the end of the year.

In the meantime there are a lot of exciting Assets features in progress that we're really excited to share; news of which will be posted on the community blog shortly.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

The new Assets pricing is absurd... Promote it as a "free" tool when you have premium and then change the rules. For some of our organisations it would mean a supplemental cost of 60k a year...And the reason " we checked the other available tools and they charge for it so we decided to do it also" is a big slap in the face of your customers...We are Atlassian...Not Service Now(SNOW) or others and we need to make a difference...It should not be all about the money!!!!
