Issue Summary
Jira project roles aren't recognizing nested group permissions for internal and external groups.
Steps to Reproduce
- Configure a nested group structure for internal groups. Such that Childgroups are part of nestedgroups for group ParentGroup
- ParentGroup
- ChildGroupA
- ChildGroupB
- Create a Project role and assign ParentGroup the required permissions
- Add the Project role for Assign issues and Assignable user
- Behaviour is same for any other project level permissions
Expected Results
The issue can be assigned to users from SlaveGroup as it should inherit the permissions from ParentGroup
Actual Results
ChildGroup users cannot be assigned to issues and group permissions are not inherited. Only when ChildGroup is explicitly added to Project Role the assignment works.
Workaround
Assign the sub groups directly to the project role / permission instead of using the parent group as a wrapper
