Attaching an Image to an issue in a Transition screen results in Unable to render embedded object

Issue Summary

When an image is added to an issue via the transition screen, on saving, you would see the error:

Unable to render embedded object: File (image-2017-04-24-17-57-49-450.png) not found.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Setup a JIRA project.
2. Edit the project workflow adding a screen to a couple of transitions.
3. Publish the workflow.
4. Create an issue and attempt to perform one of the transitions that has a screen on it.
5. Paste an image using Cntrl+V.
   • This would only work in Visual Mode.
6. The image should appear, complete the transition.

Expected Behavior

JIRA would show the image that is attached.

Actual Behavior

JIRA would show in the last comment the error we mentioned above.

Cause

When you use Cntrl+V to paste the image, JIRA does not actually add the attachment to the issue, hence when you save, you get the error you mentioned.

Workaround

To workaround this issue, you need to do the following:

1. Modify the screen associated with the transition.
2. Add the Attachment field to the screen.

Doing the above should fix the above issue somewhat however read the following information below:

The workaround above would not work if:

1. After pasting the attachment in the view mode, you switch to text view or type any characters into the comment field.
   • Switching back to the view mode would automatically show the error mentioned.
2. If when pasting the comment, if there is a validator that fails, unless you paste the attachment again, the error will occur.

The above are 2 of the scenarios we have come across where the workaround would not work. You run into others that we are not aware of.
