    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently Supported Platforms doesn't list of any vendors of JDK that we support/test our application with.

Based on our bad experience with the IBM's JDK JRA-19379 we should test OpenJDK and update our documentation accordingly.

OpenJDK becomes more popular due to its availability in linux editions. It would be worth giving some guidelines to our customers to help them avoid possible disappointments.

FYI. Confluence according to the Supported Platforms page supports only Sun JDK.

I've had Confluence XML imports fail using OpenJDK. I've not recommended OpenJDK for Jira for any customer for years, but maybe it just works!

I just fired up Jira 7.8.0 with OpenJDK (after allowing it in check-java.sh). No issues observed yet.

We didn't experience any noticeable problems running JIRA v7.1.9#71013-sha1:1aa0586 on OpenJDK 1.8.0*

Apropos: Oracle charges for some Java parts and it's easier to be on the save side with OpenJDK.

*The version included in the official download package with which JIRA is started.

What is the actual status of this? I would really appreciate if OpenJDK is finally (official) supported as it is with crowd!

For those using Ubuntu and having problems installing Oracle JDK, this guide could help: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-oracle-java-7-in-ubuntu-12-04.html.

Support for OpenJDK would make it possible to run JIRA on FreeBSD without any problems.

            +1 for supporting openJDK!

FYI. Confluence according to the Supported Platforms page supports only Sun JDK.

Which makes that page inconsistent because they list "Apple Mac OS X" as a supported Operating System, but there is no Sun JDK available for Mac.
