      Hi everyone,

Thanks for voting and commenting on this issue. Your input in the comments helps us understand how this affects you and what you're hoping to accomplish with JIRA.

This suggestion is a priority for the JIRA development team, but I am not able to provide an accurate estimate for when this will be resolved. We will update this issue as soon as we can confidently project a release.

Please remember that jira.atlassian.com is one of many inputs for the JIRA roadmap. You can learn more about our process here.

I understand that our decision may be disappointing. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

A new file attachment should be also considered as notification event.

      – Arpad

[JRASERVER-1898] Notification event on file attachment

Much needed.  Due to the file attachment triggering the "updated" event, we are forced to send unnecessary update notifications to our customers when all they need to know is when attachments are added.

Sometimes configuring Jira is a major pain. Today was one of those days. Having an attachment notification event would have saved me a lot of time (and would have kept my workflow nice and simple). Please, Atlassian, fix this so I don't have to spam 125 people when Jira messes up my day.

We primarily use Jira with ServiceDesk . Boss particularly keen to "reduce the noise from JIRA". There are other events (or rather things that should be separate events) that make noise, too. The internal/public thing is good, but sometimes the attachments need to be available to management/customer/approver types at a certain stage, so making everything internal is not a complete solution. Definitely having attachment as a separate "event" and having that event separately configurable in the Notification schemes is the right way to do it from our company's point of view.

Please, please, give us the ability to disable notifications on all attachment activity.

Are there any news on this?

It would be great if we could disable notifications for each and every attachment added to issue.

Its nice that it automatically and seamlessly adds files to attachment box, but only after clicking Save or similar should the notifications go out. Or just add the option to completely disable notifications for adding/deleting attachments. That way we can add a comment after we upload bunch of correct attachments to issue.

            Hi everyone,

Just a small update here: we have added attachment_created and attachment_deleted webhooks to JIRA Cloud. I recognize that this isn't the same thing as a notification event that you can add to your notification schemes, but it should make it much simpler if you want to set up any kind of custom integration using IFTTT, Zapier, or another similar service. And it's a step closer for us to make this available for email notifications as well. In general, we are hesitant to add more types of notifications in JIRA (even if they are off by default) without making improvements to the overall email notification system (JRA-1369).

@Jeroen van Drie: No, this is not a standard feature. Smartwatch for JIRA adds a much improved watcher functionality to JIRA. Atlassian is very open on the functionality of its products, why would you expect to get something else than whats in the official documentation?

No software is perfect. If you are not satisfied with JIRA standard functionality JIRA has a strong plugin market. This gives you access to add-on functionality at a very low cost, the price for a plugin depends on your installation size, but it will almost certainly be a small fraction of what custom development would cost you. And even if you should test the plugin, the testing effort would be nowhere near what you would have needed for a custom development project.

@erik Wetterberg No offense, but I think this should be a standard feature in Jira, not one I need to pay several hundred dollars for via a plugin.

Our plugin Smartwatch for JIRA supports this. The predefined rule 'Content' covers file attachment, together with comments, modified description etc. If you want a watch that covers only file attachment it's easy to define this yourself.

More info on this and some other notification use cases here: http://smartwatchforjira.blogspot.se/2016/09/some-jira-notifications-use-cases.html
