Yes this is a must have!!! especially, when we have so many different groups use Jira for diff things.

So it has been 15 years now. We will never have this functionality, will we?

We too have this need. We can currently send from multiple addresses within the same domain, but we are expanding capability and need to send e-mails from multiple domains- as our company has domains regarding separate legs of the business that have a need to be connected on the back-end. We use JIRA for multiple service desks, business processes, software development. 

This is a functionality that would be very helpful for my company.

We use gmail smtp server and are limited to 2000 emails sent out. Well, we have reached that limit several times and notifications are queue over to the error queue. As you can imagine, this is a real problem for users. I am not sure, but hope, that if we can have multiple smtp servers, then we would double or triple the number of notifications going out.

Any word on this? In Jira 6.1 this still seems to be out of the picture and it already have been 10 years from the creation of this issue!

We would like to like separate SMTP servers per project, in order to correctly configure incoming mail handlers to route new requests/comments on per project basis.

I'm not sure how corporate users (like myself) can configure JIRA projects to send out mails with different email addresses if they are not able to configure differente SMTP accounts. Unless they want their data to go through 3rd party mail servers.
With increased security these days SMTP servers need you to log in in order to send mails.

Voting for the issue as not to open a duplicate but my request to allow separate SMTP based on the domain being sent to.

One of the most essential features not supported by JIRA!

It is exactly what I was planning to do myself, but for a separate reason. Solving this particular issue would enable Jira to represent different projects better.

We did however discuss the idea of CreateOrCommentHander and came up with some problems in using just a single email address: If users send emails to enquire status of requests or just to say hello then these emails would create new issues to Jira. Therefore we will most likely setup a separate email address to create new issues.

We are going to release a CreateOrCommentHandler that will make the decision whether the email it is getting is a create email or a comment email.

I agree that having two mail boxes is nice however.
