Issue Summary
Removing Original estimate field from Edit issue screens does not prevent it from being editable. This is inconsistent with most other custom fields where removing from Edit screen makes the field uneditable on Issue View.
This behaviour is by design, due to the need for Original Estimate field to be editable in other surfaces; but is inconsistent with behaviour of most fields - causing confusion among users and admins.
Applies to company-managed projects only; team-managed projects do not have Edit screens.

JRACLOUD-69298 | Any | Set view/edit permissions for individual fields - field level security. |
Steps to Reproduce
- Go to a Jira Software project (Company-managed) and pick an issue type.
- For the selected issue type, add the Time tracking field to its Create, View and Edit screens.
- Go to the Project settings > Issues > Layout and for the issue type of interest, ensure the Original estimate is part of the Context fields.
- Go to Project settings > Issues > Screens and for the issue type of interest edit the "Edit issue" screen, removing the Original estimate field.
Expected Results
The Original estimate field is displayed, but can't be modified from the issue view.
Actual Results
The Original estimate field is editable regardless if the field is in the Edit issue screen.
Additional note: if the Time tracking field and the Original estimate fields are fully removed from all the screens, the Original estimate remains in the issue view, and has to be removed from the Issue overlay to actually remove it from the issue view.
Workaround
Restricting the ability to edit time tracking can be done by configuring permissions https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-time-tracking/
