Hey Everyone,
Thank you for raising and voting on this suggestion. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping and enhancing Jira for all users. Given the high volume of feature suggestions for Jira, we must prioritize those that provide the most value to the majority of our users. After a thorough review by the team, we have decided that we will not be able to implement this suggestion in the immediate future, but we did want to share a workaround for this ticket that might be helpful:
To link Done issues that don’t appear in the search results:
- Use the Exact Issue Key:
- Type the exact issue key (e.g., PROJECT-123) in the Linked Issues field.
- Select the key when it appears to complete the link.
For details, refer to our documentation on linking issues. This behavior is by design and ensures precise linking.
Please remember that jira.atlassian.com is only one of many inputs for our roadmap. We’re continuously learning, analysing and interviewing customers to make Jira better. We encourage you to also share your feedback through Atlassian Community. Please also check out latest updates and upcoming plans from the Jira Cloud roadmap and the Atlassian Cloud release notes blog.
We understand that our decision may be disappointing. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or feedback.
Regards,
Ahmud

Issue Summary
While trying to link issues, Done issues don't appear when searching and the link is only performed when typing the exact issue key and confirming.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a ticket and move it to Done
- Create another ticket and left it open
- Go in link issues and search for the Done issue name or key
Expected Results
The done issue with its name should appear as all other issues appear while typing their names.
Actual Results
Done issues aren't displayed and it seems that have no issues.
Workaround
In our public doc Link subtasks, issues, and pages from the issue view it has been mentioned that:
To link issues that are done, search for the exact issue key, otherwise the issue won't appear in the search.
So you will need to type the issue key in the Linked Issues field and then click on "Exact Key":
