      Atlassian Update – 31 October 2024

This feature has now been shipped to all continuous release track customers 🎉

"Extended Project Administrator" from Server/DC has been transformed into 2 distinct new permissions in company-managed project permissions schemes.

      • Manage Issue Layouts is a permission that, when granted, allows the user to edit issue layouts in their company-managed project where the underlying screen supporting the issue layout is isolated
      • Edit Workflow is a new permission that, when granted, allows the user to make modifications (e.g switching statuses and transitions) to exisiting isolated workflows in their company-managed project.

Both of these functions are abilities that all Jira Admins have by default, but can now be delegated to any user or role, empowering teams to directly manage and customise their project’s workflows and issue layouts. Note that both of these permissions are off by default, and will need to be assigned by Jira admins in CMP permissions schemes.

Bundled release track customers will have sandbox access by Nov 12th 2024 and production access by Dec 10th 2024.

Please make available "Extended project administration" permission in  Jira Cloud as Jira Server supports this since 7.4 version.

When will this be available for a Company Managed Service Management project (JSM)?

            Hi 804ebc59eb31,

This change does not automatically apply to Project Admins, as the "Administer Projects" permission is separate from the two new permissions that have been introduced. But yes, this ability can now be given to Project Admins if the Site Admin wishes to delegate it, via the CMP permission scheme. The person would need to have both "Administer Projects" and "Edit Workflow" to be a Project Admin who can edit workflows.

Note that because the permissions are independent, a user can edit workflows without being assigned the "Administer Projects" permission. In this case, when the user with "Edit Workflows" permission goes to the project settings of a CMP where they have this permission, they will only see the "Workflows" tab and not the full list of project admin settings.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

            Cheers,
            Aditi

Hello, what's the difference between Project Admins and Jira Product Admins? We only have three classes: Org Admins, Site Admins & Project Admins. And only Org & Site Admins can currently change workflows or edit issue layouts. Will this change now extend to Project Admins?

Hi Everyone - chiming in on behalf of Justin. The team is working really hard to get this across the line - we have an MVP and are tidying up the experience to get the feature launch-ready.

Our public roadmap commitment has this feature launching by the end of this calendar year (Q4 CY2024), and we're still on track for this timeline.

Thank you all for your patience - we know it's been a long road, but we're hoping to have this wrapped up and ready for you soon. Stay tuned!

            Cheers,

            Aditi Dalal

804ebc59eb31 it only requires Jira Product Admin (not Site Admin).

Hello, am I correct in surmising that until this is implemented, the ability to add a new field to a screen is relegated to only Site Admins and not Project Admins as it is on the Data Center platform?

Hi jthomas@atlassian.com, my customer asked for an update on this. Is there an internal page or slack channel with more info and or any external info I'm able to share with my customer?

Has there been any update on this? Are we still expecting H1 this year?
