      Hi Everyone,

I want to provide a quick update for this topic. we started rolling out this feature and should be available for all Jira customers in the following week. Atlassian Update - 24 March 2020

      Hi Everyone,

I want to provide a quick update for this topic. The work is still in progress to ship this feature, Ability to link to a specific comment "Permalink", and aiming to roll it out in the next couple of weeks and it will include all the existing functionality that was on the old issue view. I know this has taken a while to build out, but rebuilding Jira issues is no small feat, so we very much appreciate your patience on this.

In the meantime, you can opt out of this new issue experience via your Personal Settings > Jira Labs section will have a 'new issue view' toggle to turn it on or off. We will not be disabling this opt-out option until we have rebuilt all the key features of the Jira issues experience you have come to know and love.

      Regards,

I'm pretty shocked that the new UI was pushed so hard, and pretty much become the default, with this linking mechanism killed

And in fact, I see now that this very jira.atlassian.com site does NOT use the new UI - perhaps that says it all 😬

Thank you for the update on Dec 10 at least. But I sure hope "the next couple of months" gets a tighter time frame soon - how about "sometime in February"? Or at least "Quarter 1 2020" to give us a rough idea?

            Thanks!

Was anybody asked if they'd finished with the massively useful permalink feature and it could be taken away with the "new look Jira" ?  I don't remember being asked and it's a real pain not having it.

I can't believe linking to comments used to be a feature... and was removed? I'm convinced that Jira developers don't know they aren't the only ones using Jira (then again, I'm sure they just use Trello so they don't care if they mess up Jira).

I'm now adding this to the ever-growing list of reasons why my company should ditch Jira and use something - anything - else.

Indeed this seems to be one of those cases when it's difficult to get an actual update on the issue (status = in progress // assignee = unassigned).
Would there be any info on which release could re-embed this feature? If still available on the classic view I'd believe the permalink is still present in the code, just removed from the mark up of the page?

            Thanks in any case,
            A.

Seems worth pointing out that though there has not been a response in the comments from Atlassian, this issue did move to "In Progress" on August 19th. Yes, it's been nearly 3 months since then, but there's reason to think that they are working on this and not just ignoring the plethora of comments here.

Given the history of this ticket, the plethora of negative reaction we've all had and the total lack of any commitment or response from Atlassian, it's pretty clear they truly place little to no value on change control, customer satisfaction, product reputation nor their paying clientele.

I hope they don't over-analyse too much when they see cohorts of long term users convert to other offerings as that would truly be a waste of resources and energy..

It would be nice to be able to auto-link to another issue's comment like "JRACLOUD-70156 comment 2282057" would link to the specified comment in the specified issue. Auto-linking to specific comments is a feature in, for example, Bugzilla.

Greatest irony: this very issue still retains comment linking, despite it having been stripped out of the version of Cloud pushed to all customers.

Atlassian folks, some response would be really fantastic - as Jaspaul wrote, this has been open since last year.  I posted over a month ago, and many other people have chimed in since.  It looks like it's currently #36 on the priority board for Cloud, but considering that none of the other higher-priority items are reimplementations of stripped features, it should merit a response.

In my opinion, the main point of an issue tracker is to have all the information and communication about a task in one place, so that I can reference it whenever needed. Comments without permalinks are a similar mess as communicating everything via e-mail. Please bring this essential feature back.

Yes, please add this feature back. I used to use it on an almost daily basis. It's much more accurate to link directly to the comment that you are referring to rather than saying, "Look at the comments on this story, it's about 3/4 of the way down."

@Jonathan Lundquist I think Farrukh meant is not really "All view" but the "See the old view" at the top which allows you to switch temporarily to the old Jira UI, and link comment the old way.

Another vote for this to be restored.

A note for those who are prioritizing issues at Atlassian: if you're trying to feel out whether an issue is vital, consider that many users who rely on a feature may not have time to hunt down why it has disappeared, come to the realization that it was intentional, somehow find the coordinating task for reimplementing it, and finally apply a vote after jumping through another login.

In the future, please try announcing considered feature deprecations well ahead of time (during product planning, perhaps?) and allow voting on which to keep.  This would be a much kinder and more transparent approach and keep some faith in the future of the platform.  This is not the first time we've had vital features disappear from Atlassian products without any forewarning or reasoning behind why it was done.  Please don't behave as a monopoly in this space and ignore your customer's needs.

Permalink to comments is an essential feature used by many teams. It has disappeared recently in the Comments tab view. Please add it back. As a workaround it is available from the All view.

Restore the perma-link functionality to comments, or never get rid of the option to restore the "old view".

My team needs permalinks to comments to support our team's business processes.

As a member of a distributed team, I need to easily copy a direct link to a specific comment so I can notify relevant team members via email/chat outside of Jira.

Please re-add simple and important features like the Permalink... the new UI is a big regression in many ways!

Please add permalink feature back. We have to be able to reference a particular comment on emails, etc with our Clients and our Development Teams. We also use it in other tickets to reference a comment on a different ticket

            please add it back.

            thank you

This is such a critical issue for many reasons. Even if a nice UI isn't there at the very least please assign the id of the div holding the comment to something unique (anything really, as long as it's stable) so those of us who really need this feature can at least manually create a functioning URL by inspecting the DOM.

This is really essential to many workflows (including day-to-day chat conversation around issues). Please add it back!

Yea Tom, emojis are in and thoughtful stuff out. It's so vital after all to be able to express our FEELINGS, even in Jira. Very emblematic

            Hey @Gennady,

But now you can add one-click emojis to comments

It's finally starting to gain a little traction though:

Hm, images don't seem to upload, so this is what I meant to include as a screenshot:

            Status: GATHERING INTEREST
This suggestion needs more unique domain votes and comments before being reviewed by our team.

Agreed with the comment above. See what I mean. No way it's a suggestion! It's essential for us at least. We constantly link to comments. You are demonstrating complete disregard for the needs of your clients in dropping a feature they rely on.

Add this back in!! It's one thing to want to redesign the UI but how do you just get rid of the functionality which you can clearly see is being used?!

            > This is no feature, this is essential operation.  I'm supposed to tell my colleague "hey check this ticket, 37 comments down from the top, assuming you're sorting from oldest first"?  I think not.

This is really an important item and should not be a Suggestion. I suggest to mark it as a required feature.

Seems like the same problem is now happening again since the design was updated about two weeks ago...
