      Atlassian Update – April 27, 2022

      Hi everyone,

This is a delayed update, but one I am very happy to share.

The Cloud-to-cloud migration tool was released to all Jira instances in Dec 2021. It is in “Beta” right now, and currently supports Jira Core and JSW (company-managed projects only). You can read details about the feature at https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/cloud-to-cloud-migration/.

We want to thank all the customers who participated in the early access program. Your feedback and patience has helped us tremendously and made it possible for us to make it available to all customers.

Over the last few months we have continued working on cloud-to-cloud tool to create a more stable and reliable migration journey. We recently hit a milestone of 1K unique customers using the tool by serving 1257 customers in March 2021.

I also want to update the Swarna Mehta is the new Product Manager looking after this. She is tagged as the new owner of the ticket.

Thank you everyone for your support through this journey.

      Best wishes,
      Ritesh Ranjan

Through working with JIRA Cloud support, I learned that the only way to move a project from one instance to another, is to create a full backup, and import into the new instance. Then delete all of the projects in the new instance that did not need to transfer.

We use JIRA and Confluence for managing many different projects. Some of them have thousands of Issues, and some have been in use for over 10 years. When our support efforts were for a project that wanted to migrate to its own instance, we were stuck in a 2 month process of figuring out how to make that happen.

There should be more convenient functionality to move a project (Jira, Confluence, and any add-ons) between two cloud instances.

So !? when will we be able to easily import a Jira software cloud instance into another one without losing data or having to do huge csv file manipulation?

this request still in progress but we need this feature since 2017 !

            Hi Ritesh,

It'd be really great to have the possibility to migrate a single project from 1 Cloud instance to another, the current options are either not free or quite complex. Is there an ETA for this to be delivered? As part of our company acquisition, we are in the process of consolidating different Jira instances in a single one and having this feature will make things much easier.

            Regards,

            Marco

            Hi everyone,

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we are making progress on the cloud-to-cloud migration release as part of the early access program.

Today I am happy to share that we have invited the final batch of customers for the early access program. During this phase we selected customers who are looking to move between instances over the month of August.

If you want to participate in the program, please reach out to the support team.

During Phase 2 of the program, we were able to identify 14 more bugs. We truly appreciate all the EAP participants who tried the product and gave their valuable feedback.

As a final piece, we will be sharing a short survey to get further feedback about your experience with the tool and how we can improve it further.

            Best wishes,

            Hi everyone,

Thank you for your continued interest and support during these times.

In the first phase of the EAP, we had 15 customers try the cloud-to-cloud migration tool. We identified and fixed lots of bugs, that has helped us tremendously to improve the tool itself. We really appreciate your help with this.

Today I have some great update about further rollout of cloud-to cloud migrations early access program. This week we are increasing the rollout further. In this phase we are enabling the early access program for customers migrating less than 1000 users.

For those who are eligible, we will be contacting through a MOVE ticket with detailed documentation and information for you to run the migration.

Once again, thanks for your support and patience.

            Best wishes,

            Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience as we are working on enabling the Cloud-to-cloud migration for Jira Software Classic projects. We are very close to enabling the early access program for the first set of customers. Today I am sharing more information with you on this.

As this is the first version of the product that will be tested on customer data, we are taking a cautious approach to the rollout. In the 1st phase - early May, we are starting with customers who are migrating small instances in this quarter (<250 users, with users as a proxy for size). We have reached out to you via MOVE tickets that’s created for this purpose specifically. If you think you meet these criteria but have not received any communication, please drop a note on my mailto:[rranjan2@atlassian.com]], or reach out to Atlassian support.

After this 1st phase, we will open the program to the rest of customers that have signed up. This is likely to be in late-May.

Hope this helps with your migration planning and gives a clearer picture of what’s coming up.

            Thanks,

            SALUT

I understand that not everyone needs this option, but it should already be in the options, we don't have much choice, one that crushes everything and the other that brings it back to the room and on top of that some plug in blocks us like zephyr, we are stuck with 2 instances for our company and I can't bring them together

            thanks
