improve HTML email readability in mobile devices like iPhone - make column sizes relative

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

JIRA's HTML update emails make use of columns. The left-hand column (Issue, key, issue type, etc.) takes up about 40% of the screen. The right-hand column is the body, and takes up about 60% of the screen. the fields (reporter type, new comment, etc.) often have fixed indent sizes.

The result of that formatting is that the actual content of the alert is only one character wide. It creates a gigantic vertical scroll, reading a long, vertical sentence.

Workaround: use plain text emails. use a different email client.

Still, it would be nice if I could view my emails on my iPhone.

            Hi All,

Slightly off topic, but we are actively planning a mobile experience for JIRA and I thought it would be of interest to you. If you have any thoughts, please see my comment on another issue regarding a mobile experience.

            Cheers

This is still a problem with the iPad and I see it with iPhone iOS4 as well. The CSS is on the server so the device takes a long time to load the email if the server is unavailable.

This is no longer an issue when you upgrade your iPhone to iOS4. HTML-emails from Jira then looks great.

This is important for manager that are not always at the PC all day. Thanks for considering a fix for this.

I am having the same grey screen issue. As a project manager away from my computer a lot, this is an important communication break down for the team.

I'm using iPhone 3G, and email notifications sent result in a gray background ONLY. There's absolutely no visible text, but the HTML mail seems to display - depending on the issue the gray area is longer or shorter, and clicking randomly on it sometimes activates the browser, so the content seems to be there. We're using JIRA 3.13.4. So, currently we cannot use iPhone at all to check email notifications!
