Thank you for updating the issue. But what about a solution for this? We get more and more questions about this from our users.

Are there plans to fix this soon?

            Update:

Maybe one helpful information for all affected instances with enabled external user management:

Seems that there was a change in one of the last releases that makes it possible to enable the setting "Can users edit their own profile?" without enabling the user to change the Email address (what makes it pita before with enabled external user management).

Displayed info: Your profile is synced from an external directory which restricts editing of some fields. Contact your administrator to make changes.

            Only these changes are allowed:

            • @mention Name
            • Job title
            • Timezone

and last but not least the profile picture

            Best

            Carlo

            Any updates on this?

We've noticed it continues to be the case in the latest production release (2.1.3) also.
