Having animated GIFs in the chat or either as the avatar picture causes high CPU usage in HipChat, which can affect the performance of the client.
Environment
- Windows 7/10
- HipChat 4.28
Steps to reproduce
- Upload a GIF image as your account's profile picture.
- Launch HipChat (affected version) and leave the client open.
- Open the Windows task manager and observe the HipChat's CPU usage.
Expected Results
CPU consumption almost 0% since no actions are being executed in the client.
h3 Actual Results
HipChat consumes 60% to 100% of CPU when the client is rendering animated GIFs.
Workaround
Change the profile picture to a static image or if possible eliminate GIFs from the interface to prevent HipChat from rendering them.
