    • Severity 2 - Major

Having animated GIFs in the chat or either as the avatar picture causes high CPU usage in HipChat, which can affect the performance of the client.

      Environment

      • Windows 7/10
      • HipChat 4.28

      Steps to reproduce

      1. Upload a GIF image as your account's profile picture.
      2. Launch HipChat (affected version) and leave the client open.
      3. Open the Windows task manager and observe the HipChat's CPU usage.

      Expected Results

CPU consumption almost 0% since no actions are being executed in the client.

      h3 Actual Results

HipChat consumes 60% to 100% of CPU when the client is rendering animated GIFs.

      Workaround

Change the profile picture to a static image or if possible eliminate GIFs from the interface to prevent HipChat from rendering them.
