Standard confluence config.
Create a page containing an Umlaut, wait for it to be indexed, search for it using the header bar search, finds it ok, shows search page with umlaut in search field, click search again, or type umlaut in search field, and Confluence searches for a two-character string, e.g: 'ä' if you search for 'ä'.
