Livesearch macro returns Not Permitted when Unlicensed Access searching

NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

      Summary

When using a Live Search Macro as an Unlicensed Access user (Service Desk Customer), the user is able to search content by selecting it from the search suggestions but when the user hits 'return' to run the search, he is redirected to /dosearchsite.action and sees "Not Permitted"

      Environment

      • Confluence Space shared through JIRA Service Desk

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Link a JIRA Service Desk project to a Space
      2. Create a page on that space with a live search macro
      3. login as a Service Desk customer (user without Confluence or JIRA Application access)
      4. navigate to the page with the live search macro
      5. type on the box to see results. results can be selected and are available
      6. hit "Enter" on the keyboard

      Expected Results

      Search results are shown.

      Actual Results

      "Not Permitted" page is shown.

      Notes

      • "Enter" redirects to /dosearchsite.action that is not accessible to "Unlicensed Access" users.
      • Making the space public doesn't solve the problem.

      Workaround

Click on results given by the live search.

[CONFSERVER-41227] Livesearch macro returns Not Permitted when Unlicensed Access searching

This is a really unfortunate and bizarre restriction. The absence of even basic search functionality for non-licensed users greatly impacts user satisfaction ;/.

This is a severe bug, wish we'd know about it much sooner.  Basically a show stopper.

Requesting the severity of this bug be escalated.  We have several departments adopting Confluence for public access data management and users are reporting this issue weekly.

Any update on this?  The "Livesearch" macro and "Page Tree Search" macro both still have this exact issue.  I have several frustrated customers.

This would make our end user knowledgebase usable.

We need a solution for this, too.

OUCH!!  This could be a showstopper for us moving our customers from Zendesk to Jira Service Desk.  Does anyone have any workarounds?
